It’s actually pretty simple Biblically, Luke 1:43, as Mary is visiting Elizabeth, pregnant with Jesus, Elizabeth calls her the mother of her “Lord”, aka God.

Says it in the Douay-Rheims, The Message, KJV, NKJV, WEBUS, take your pick.

So she’s the mother of God.

OK, the way I look at it, With a fully human baby, ( Roughly speaking) The father gives half the dna the mother gives half the dna. With Jesus, Mary gives the humanity and the Holy Spirit gives the Divinity. I feel like, saying "Mary is not the mother of Jesus's humanity and divinity" is like saying, "A mother isn't a mother over the father's half of the genes"....?

Protestants and Muslims call her the Mother of Jesus. Catholics, Orthodox, and other Traditional Christians call her the Mother of God being that we understand that our Lord is ONE Person with TWO Natures a Divine Nature and a Human Nature, the Person the Son our Lord Jesus is God.

This question was in me for a long time but until today I just have a dream some one were singing a song that I have never heard before but I only remember “ Mary is mother of God…” I think God confirmed my question through my dream. Thanks for your explanation

She sure is the mother of Jesus Who is God, therefore she is Theotokos, Mother of God. Protestants accept and believe though most of them avoid saying it. Muslims only accept her as mother of Jesus.

Im Protestant but I think that the isn’t anything wrong with the title “Mother of God”. My argument is that she gave birth and took care of Jesus who is God. Being a mother doesn’t mean she created God. God created her and chose her for the mission. I have a mother, is she my creator or is it God? It even says in the bible its god who creates you in the womb. God created humanity. And nothing is impossible for God so instead of trying to use logic just follow the bible. (I’m uneducated on this topic so pls correct)

Mary the mother of God. She gave birth to a person Jesus is the second person in the Trinity. She did not give birth to somebody’s nature which Jesus’ nature is Divine, which he got from God.So Jesus received is humanity from his mother.

God is God of Order, he knew that Mary will be the mother of Jesus before she was born. You can write all philosophy, theology and science to dispute that but it is what it is.

well its not surprising in Roman tradition to make things to become God, they have dozens of it already and they can add another God as they like 😂. God maker 😂

So....Mother Mary gave birth to the creator of the universe, you say? What about the idea that Mother Mary is, in fact, the creator of the universe....and She is the only woman known to the history of everything that does not require male interaction to create and/or destroy anything related to existence? That would end the battle of the sexes....Momma wins, every time. By the way.... Mom can do anything, including being dad, and Jesus, and God the father, and Mother Mary, etc. all at the same time, like Eddy Murphy.

Php 2:6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Jesus was a human like us.

The phrase mother of God traces back to the third century and continues to be used in some liturgical churches, including the Roman Catholic Church. One of the topics at the Council of Ephesus in AD 431 was the use of the Greek term Theotókos (literally, “God-bearer” or “the one who gives birth to God”) in reference to Mary. That council’s use of Theotokos was meant to counter the heresy of Nestorianism, which cleaved the nature and person of Christ in two: Christ’s human and divine natures were completely divergent and unconnected. According to Nestorius, Mary gave birth to Christ but not to God; Mary was the mother of His humanity, which was totally distinct from His divinity—Jesus was two persons sharing one body, essentially. The Council of Ephesus affirmed the full deity of Christ and unity of His person by saying that Mary did indeed bear God in her womb. Mary is the “mother of God” in the sense that, since Jesus is God and Mary is the mother of Jesus, she is the mother of God. The Word became flesh (John 1:14), and Mary mothered Him.
We should distinguish the term Theotokos from mother of God, because there is a subtle yet important difference. The term mother of God could be taken wrongly as implying that Mary was the source or originator of God, similar to how Juno was the mother of Vulcan in Roman mythology. Of course, Christianity teaches that God is eternal and that Jesus Christ has a pre-existent, divine nature. The idea that Mary is the mother of God in the sense that she was the source of God or somehow predated God or is herself part of the Godhead is patently unbiblical.
