**The silver dollars you see are currently now living in my 250 gallon large community fish tank that can properly house them. This small 10 gallon is just a temporary quarantine tank to check if they are sick when I got them from the Local fish Shop.. please don't get the wrong idea!! I am definitely not keeping them in that small tank for the rest of their life!! They moved on and growing healthy with fins regenerated and everything**

**Watch in high-definition. Change quality to 720p for better viewing experience**

Silver dollar fish, scientific name: Metynnis argenteus or Metynnis hypsauchen (I still have to identify these guys; it's either one of these two species I mentioned). Fish family member of characin fish. Native to South America, these fish inhabit the Amazon and Orinoco River basins. A cool, awesome silvery-colored fish with somewhat of a spitting image of piranhas once full grown with a red-tinged anal fins and red-edged tails, and some spots on their dorsal fins. They like warm tropical temperatures around 76-83F. Peaceful little saucer-shaped fish. Reaches to about 6-8" inches if kept in optimal water conditions. Likes a pH of 6.0-7.6, in my experience. Lives around 10+ years if well cared for. Herbivorous fish that love vegetation. They are actually related to piranhas, their carnivorous cousins. Best kept in groups of at least five as they are a schooling fish. They need a lot of space to swim, and can be quite a bit skittish, shy, and thrashes around if startled; very swift, energetic, and quick-swimming fish. Can be a little nippy, so definitely DON'T keep these guys with fish with very long fins, but may keep the nipping to themselves if kept in a school. I recommend 75 gallon tanks and bigger for a good school of these guys; you can get away with a 55-60 gallon with a small number of them, but they may not be too happy, active, and moving. Aggressive eaters, not picky at all about choosing their foods. Takes flakes, pellets, insects, LIVE PLANTS, land vegetables, you name it, but must make sure they get their vegetables, so spirulina, veggie flakes are good for them. Breeding is best done by getting a group of juveniles and watching them as some of them grow and pair up. They are egg-layers, so they will spawn on plant leaves if provided to them inside tank. Baby brine shrimp or powdered foods and a lot of clean water must be given to the babies once hatched within 48 hours. Silver dollars makes great tankmates with a variety of fish including cichlids, catfish, loaches, barbs, rainbowfish, etc.

Finally, been looking for some regular silver dollars over here at SoCal for some time with no luck, and now, it's about time, I managed to find some at a LFS near where I live.. picked a total of five up at $5 each and got one free. Just got them in the ten gallon quarantine tank. Looking to add these guys to my small school of regular medium-sized SD's in my 250 to make a way bigger and happier school. Already going for flakes left in the tank. q:^) Can't wait until I'm done quarantining them.

**UPDATE 10-22-2014**
Finally. Been a long quarantining process in the tank but now they are released into the monster 250 gallon tank!! ! Time to kick back and relax while they swim with the older mature silver dollars I have in there eventually once they get older haha. These guys will get big in no time, fast growers.

Cheers, hope you guys like the video.

Peace!
