Lactation cookies! Do they work? What's in them? We'll answer these questions and more in today's video! In this description you will find a list of Galactagogues, and a couple of my favorite make-at-home lactation cookie recipes. I considered adding a few links to pre-packaged lactation cookies, but I have yet to find any that I feel comfortable recommending to anyone. However, I also won't tell you not to try them if you would like to. I hope that this helps to clarify the purpose of galactagogues - they might help your supply slightly, but you still need to be focusing on what actually makes milk!
You got this, Mommy!

GALACTAGOGUES:
The American Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine states that there is little evidence that galactagogues can increase milk supply. The newest data suggests that we should exercise extreme caution in recommending a galactagogue. Many of them have significant side effects.

- Fenugreek: May lower milk supply for some mothers, may decrease absorption of medications, potentially affect asthma, may lower blood pressure, cause upset stomach for mom or baby
- Fennel Seed: Do not use while pregnant - essential oils may be toxic if used in large amounts.
- Blessed Thistle: May trigger allergic reaction, may cause gastric irritation.
- Alfalfa Leaves: Do not use if you have lupus or are using a blood thinner.
- Blackseed: May cause upset stomach.
- Goats Rue: May lower blood sugar, cause blood thinning.
- Vitex: May cause nausea, rash or hives, menstrual disorder and may interfere with birth control or other hormone-based medications.
- Stinging Nettle: May cause upset stomach.
- Shatavari: May cause diarrhea.
- Marshmallow root: May cause allergic reaction.
- Red Clover Blossom: Avoid using when taking a blood thinner or birth control pills.
- Red Raspberry Leaf: May cause contractions if used during pregnancy.

I got sick with neasea for a couple days and barely ate anything. As a result: my supply has tanked 😩 I am trying to get it back up as I had so much before I got sick.

Do lactation pills work the same as the cookies?
What about brewer's yeast? Does it actually help increase supply? I have twins and they feed every hour or less, but the constant stimulation doesn't seem to help increase my supply

Hi. I’ve had to start giving my daughter top ups of formula as she wasn’t gaining enough weight. I had to do this in her first 2 weeks as she wasn’t latching properly but I exclusively breast fed for 5weeks and then she got weighed and had only put on 5oz 🥲 she was born 6 pounds 5 oz and was 6 pounds 10oz at 7 weeks, plenty of wet and dirty nappies, really happy within herself but as she wasn’t gaining enough weight they said I need to top her up after each feed and I’m not able to pump enough to just top up with breast milk so I have to give her formula now as well. Im pumping after each feed and only get 2ml- maximum of 15ml. I’m topping her up every other feed or so and She gained 7oz in 6 days! I haven’t had her weighed this week yet but she clearly wasn’t getting enough from just breastfeeding. I really don’t like having to give her formula and I’m trying to eat better and I’ve seen a slight increase since trying fenugreek (literally only 2 teaspoons over the course of 2 days) but I’m really stuck as I wish I could exclusively breast feed again or at least be able to pump enough to top her up with breast milk 😩 she’s now 9weeks old any advice? Xx
