Is this where Jesus was tried by Pontius Pilate?

In the 1970s, excavations of the western side of Jerusalem's Old City uncovered a monumental gate that led into Herod the Great’s palace complex. Could this be where Jesus was tried by Pontius Pilate and condemned to be crucified? What does the archaeological evidence show?

How this guy doesn't have like 10 Million subs is beyond me, this has to be the best Bible-Archeological channel in all of YouTube.

Not a huge religious person but i love this so much. It adds so much context to written biblical verses and the time it was written in.

This is more than informative. Your last statement "He took our punishment to Himself so that we could receive what we don't deserve, and that is his grace." struck my heart so deep that it reminded me again to cherish the faith and to set aflame once again my personal relationship with Jesus, our savior and God. Thank you for your channel and God bless you always!

This brought tears to my eyes and broke my heart bc of what Jesus went through for us. VERY VERY powerful video. Thank you for posting. We don't deserve Jesus' love, yet HE still loves us all. GOD bless you. 🙏🙏🙏

Absolutely tragic how Christian archeological sites have been vandalized and disregarded over time, so thanks for your hard and continuous work 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤

I just discovered this channel and it’s my new favorite channel. I’m addicted. This is the first archaeologist I’ve seen who’s done such a clear job of tying ancient sources to physical findings in Christian antiquity. This helps me want to learn more about my faith, and helps me to believe these weren’t all just nice bedtime stories we were told.

Thank you for letting me see the holy land through you. I'll never get to go there, but your videos take me there!

Just discovered this channel and I am blown away!

This type of content is of the quality that the History Channel used to have in the early 2000s before it was destroyed by Ancient Aliens/Pawn Stars, etc. Back when you wanted to learn something awesome in a documentary. I sure do miss those days, but it’s absolutely amazing that we have this content, which I view as of a higher quality than a lot of the old History channel content. A+ work. Please never stop what you’re doing! Society needs this.

Since I have viewed several of your videos now, I would like to say thank you, not just for the videos themselves, but for the dedication to keeping them in line with the scriptures... Seeing the places uncovered, where the Bible describes, brings to life the truth of God's word and a glimpse for many that may never be blessed to walk those streets...

Instead of seeing asphalt doing discredit, think of the ironic nature of Herod's great palace being "dirt under the commoners feet" as a testimony to earthly kings passing away, but God's word still remains... And that's proof.

Thank you again.🙏

Very interesting. I always was told that Pilate stayed in and operated out of the Antonia Fortress (the large fort-like structure shown over looking the temple on the northwest side of the temple in the reconstruction drawings). This fortress would have been on the east side of Jerusalem near the "Hadrian" gate that the archeologist, Joel Kramer, mentions as the "wrong" gate. So, the "wrong" gate fits with the trial of Jesus by Pontus Pilate being conducted in the Roman-occupied Antonia Fortress. However, Jerusalem as been destroyed and rebuilt over and over and over again since the time of Jesus. This makes any identification of many of the sites in Jerusalem associated with the Bible very, very difficult, if not impossible. Joel Kramer and Shimon Gibson may be on to something with their excavation and theory about Herod's Palace being the place where Pilate conducted the trial of Jesus.

I was at this gate this summer and my spirit wanted to break down and cry. This is a very important place to come to. I encourage everyone who has not been to Israel to go. It is worth the effort.

I was there today! The signage claims there was a secret gate there for Herod. The few people about seemed oblivious of it. I leave Jerusalem tomorrow afternoon but I am going back to this site tomorrow morning after seeing this video.

Your videos are amazing! I stumbled across them just a few days ago; and now I sit down with my Bible, taking notes from you in the margins. I don't want to forget a single fact I've learned from you. In fact, I am so intrigued that I bought your book today, and I'd give anything to enroll in a Biblical archaeological course with you as my professor. God is doing awesome, inspiring work through you!

I can't help but to think of how there are some people who are like doubting Thomas. They have "to see it to believe it". Most people may not ever have the opportunity to visit the Holy Land. Your videos are the conduit for lives to be radically changed by stronger, deeper faith, all because of what they've now been able to see! Thank you for your heart of service to the Lord.
