It’s hard to imagine living without your stomach, but many people do. Following a diagnosis of stomach cancer, removing a section or the entire stomach can be part of the treatment plan, and one that is overseen by a specialized multidisciplinary Sunnybrook team.

my dad had the same situation 2 years ago he learnt he had stomach cancer 1 year ago his stomach was removed now there was an aggressive cancer cell found in the spine that absorbs all of the nutrients from his food. he died 2 weeks ago. it’s nice to see this man who has survived this horrible thing and it’s scary because you go really really skinny without a stomach especially my dad since he couldn’t eat much anyway it was so sad. best of luck to jim

I’m just glad they found no cancer in my stomach like my grandmother years ago. I still had to have 3/4 of my stomach removed due to an unhealing pyloric ulcer that caused many severe issues. I have to take B12 shots for the rest of my life too and eat 5-6 small meals a day. I eat Mediterranean based mostly and feel a ton better now. Bless you for I know this can not be easy.

My dad just had emergency major surgery last night. Watching this to see how life will be when he gets better (still induced) - has given me hope

"The stomach is the size as a bag of milk."

Who sells liquids in a bag, you're just asking for trouble.

Hi Jim. How are you feeling now? My sister is having a total gastrectomy after testing positive for the CDH1 gene mutation. They performed 38 biopsies, found cancer in 1. Did your doctor preserve your lower esophageal sphincter? I've read studies on NIH, concluding it's better to preserve the LES to decrease instances of esophagitis and other issues.

Stomach cancer is so scary I had a grandfather that had stomach cancer it was stage 4 and he couldn't get chemo and radiation there was nothing they could do about it the cancer spreaded through his liver lungs bones and brain it was terminal and he passed away few weeks later it was about a decade ago and I'm scared that it could happen to me or my dad in the future I want to do a genetic test for stomach cancer to see if I'm at risk for it if they had found the cancer early he would've survived it but it was too late my grandfather and dad don't usually see the doctors

We can live without a stomach because most of the digestion takes place in the small intestine. Ok fine.... But but.... What about stomach acid? Stomach acid is needed to break down food and kill any bacteria or germs present in the food.
