Caballé & Domingo in Finale of Aida

The final scene of Verdi´s famous opera Aida - the famous "Tomb scene" - performed by Montserrat Caballé and Plácido Domingo in their best. Recorded in 1974 with Riccardo Muti, New Philharmonia Orchestra. Both performers showed extraordinarily precise singing, that´s why this recording is being presented with the sheet music, for listeners to compare the singing with the partiture. This is my favorite duet in all of opera and my favorite tenor and soprano. Someone said that Verdi arranged the notes on the score to look like pyramids. If you look at the score you can see what they mean.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Caballé and Domingo sang with such an elegance and it sounds so light. If this aren't sounds from heaven, what else would be? Caballé's pianissimi are immense, Domingo has such a smooth voice and I love both of them. I could listen to this 1000 times, it would take me to tears, every time.
I've never heard a Soprano and a Tenor sing these high notes with such a facilityand in such calmness. Bravoo to these two!!! Bravo!

First time I have hear Domingo sing where I loved his voice...must have been because he was singing with Caballe...absolutely perfect singing here.

When I sold my vinyl record collection back some decades ago, the one LP that I could not part with was a recording of love duets with Domingo and Caballe.

This is wonderful! Caballe's pianissimo B flats are the stuff of history. She is one of the greatest singers of all time. Domingo is his usual musical self, always elegant and utilizing impeccable phrasing. Only the Bjoerling, Milanov recording made in 1955 can match this.

I agree. the amount of vocal control needed for this scene is one of the hardest pieces of repertoire to triumph and they did so here so marvelously. That last Bb together almost brought me to absolute tears: it's like Aida's last farewell to Radames for all the things they've been through together. :')

Looking at the score one can see how difficult this music is to sing. Makes you realize how wonderful the singers are. Just listen to how gently Mme. Caballe touches those high notes.

I had never heard this before. All 3 singers are fantastic here. As a great fan of Ms Caballé, I am thrilled to have found this, but I am really surprised by Mr Domingo here, I must confess. I did not know he could achieve something of great beauty!
