Track 7 from their fifth album released in 1973 copyright Island Records. It was recorded at Dynamic Sound, Harry J’s and Randy’s studios in Kingston, Jamaica and Island Studios in London. This was their first release for Island Records, having previously been signed to Jamaican producer Leslie Kong’s Beverley’s label. Kong died of a heart attack at the age of thirty-eight, only a week after their fourth album was released in 1971. After the band had finished a tour of Great Britain with headliner Johnny Nash later that year, they didn’t have enough money to return to Jamaica. They approached London producer and Island Record’s founder Chris Blackwell, who already distributed their music in the U.K. and he agreed to advance them enough to return home and begin recording their next album for his label. Bob Marley returned to London with the tapes from the Jamaica sessions where they were remixed with overdubs added by Blackwell. Muscle Shoals session guitarist Wayne Perkins, who was in London at the time, added guitar parts to three tracks that made them standouts on the album. A subsequent tour of England and the U.S. helped generate international interest in the band. The album received excellent reviews but only reached No. 171 on the Billboard chart. It’s widely regarded as possibly the best reggae album ever made. The band would continue to blaze their trail as the world’s premiere reggae band, often writing songs about racism and political injustice in addition to those about love and getting the girl. Written by Bob Marley and produced by Bob Marley & Chris Blackwell. RIP Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Carlton Barrett, Tommy McCook, Robbie Shakespeare & Bunny Wailer. Featuring:

I went downtown, oh (said I went uptown)
I saw Miss Brown (I said I saw Miss Brown)
She had brown sugar (had brown sugar)
All over her booga-wooga (all over her booga-wooga)

I think I might join the fun (I might join the fun)
But I had to hit and run (I had to hit and run)
See I just can't settle down (just can't settle down)
In a kinky part of town

(Ride on) don't you know I've got to
(Ride on) oh, baby
(Ride on) see, I just can't settle down
(Ride on) oh, I'm leaving town

(Kinky reggae) kinky reggae, take me away
(Kinky reggae now) kinky reggae now, oh
(Kinky reggae) all I've got to say (kinky reggae, now) oh
(Kinky reggae) oh, baby (kinky reggae now) it's gonna be
(Kinky reggae) give it up (it's kinky reggae now) and I would say

(Ride on) ride on, ride on
(Ride on) oh, ride on, baby
(Ride on) come on, oh-oh-oh-ho
(Ride on) whoa, now

I went down to Piccadilly Circus, down there I saw Marcus
He had candy tar all over his chocolate bar
I think I might join the fun (join the fun)
But I had to hit and run (had to hit and run)
See, I just can't settle down (just can't settle down)
In a kinky, kinky part of town

(Nice one) nice one, that's what they say
(Nice one) but I'm leaving you today
(Nice one) oh, darlin' please don't play
(Nice one) Mama say, Mama say

(Kinky reggae) kinky reggae, ugh
(Kinky reggae now) take it or leave it
(Kinky reggae) believe it, hey
(Kinky reggae now)
(It's kinky reggae) it's gonna be kinky reggae
(Kinky reggae now) lookie here now
(Kinky reggae) gotta be yo boppin' baby
(Kinky reggae now) oh-oh-ooh
(Ride on) ride on, c'mon yeah
(Ride on) riding on, riding on
(Ride on) kinky reggae, c'mon and ride on, eh, eh
(Kinky reggae) kinky, kinky, kinky as (kinky reggae) kinky can be

(Kinky reggae) gettin' away now
(Kinky reggae now) oh
