Popcorn Sutton by Ali Randolph Band

In 2009, legendary mountain moonshiner Popcorn Sutton sold an undercover ATF agent hundreds of jars of moonshine. When the agent returned to buy more, he brought a posse of state and federal agents with him. Popcorn was sentenced to prison for making and selling his illegal "likker." But instead of serving time in a penitentiary, he chose to end his own life.

Singer-songwriter Ali Randolph immortalized Popcorn's life in a song that she first performed at his memorial service. Later she recorded the song at Hollow Reed Studio in Asheville with her band. The video was shot on location at Popcorn's home, and at the site of his last moonshine operation.

Back in 2008 on my 18th birthday I had me a pint of Popcorn's Likker. It was second to none. He wasn't kidding about it being the "block and tackle" kind..I couldn't walk 3 feet without tackling the ground. I miss this man everyday

Like the song, like the video. I knew him and his parents Vader and Bonnie. Bonnie played the banjo even after she got old and sick. They was the real deal, no fake hillbillies. He lived the way he wanted and left this world on his terms. He was who he was, like him or not. I did but,  they just wanted to make an example of him.

I grew up close to where Popcorn made his shine he was a mountain legend and a man who inspired a lot of men and women I never meet him but I wish I could have he was a good man and a great shiner went to Nashville a while back on a trip and saw a big poster on the side of a building down on boulevard for a little ole hillbilly like me it was pretty cool to see how far Popcorn's legend has spread
