I have a friend who talked to her doctor about it and was completely shamed for even asking. She was treated like she was mentally ill for even asking the question. She’s older ( early 70s) and has lived her life with executive dysfunction and she just wants some help. This is the doctor she has to see to get a referral to see a psychiatrist so she can find out. I was so very angry when she told be about it. Doctors still routinely act like ADHD is not even real.

I’ve had all these symptoms for decades, it does make me feel better to understand the reason.

Yeah, then when you figure out it is ADHD and you mention it to someone, they say, oh, you should have been diagnosed as a child, so that can't be it. Really!? in 1962?

I wish more professionals knew the signs of ADHA in women. I started seeing a therapist for depression. While working through that, she also diagnosed me with ADHA and autism. When I got to the point where I was ready to try depression medication, I had to see a psychiatrist to get a prescription via a telehealth appt. My therapist had recommended Welbutrin since it could possibly help with ADHA symptoms as well. The psychiatrist was an invalidating jerk who said I couldn't possibly have ADHA because I could hold a then about 5-10 min conversation and refused to perscribe me the Welbutrin; she would only perscribe me Xanax. The language and tone that she used was completely unprofessional, especially what she said about the therapist. It was an extremely invaliding experience.

Ultimately, I had a bad reaction to the Xanax. Thankfully, I went to a different pyschiatrist who was will to perscribe Welbutrin and it worked for me.

I didn't know until recently that emotional sensitivity and trouble maintaining friendships are adhd symptoms. I definitely have the other symptoms. I think one of the most frustrating things is sometimes when I'm starting my day I keep getting sidetracked and think about a gazillion different things before doing the first task to even starting my day. I have found that making lists of daily tasks to accomplish is extremely helpful.

YuP, sounds very familiar. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 63.

I only have these when i get traumatised. The overlap between neurological disorders and trauma gets a lot of people confused.

Yes indeed. The emotional part doesn't fit in my case. With tasks, my problem is beginning them. I have made so many blunders in my life because of this disorganisation and pathological procrastination and I still make my life harder this way despite being aware of it.

It was hard for me to get a diagnosis as an adult. I hope Murica is better there but the psychiatrists I went to for my depression refused to even consider it. I had to search online and there were two options in my wider area. One was an ambulant practice in a big hospital specialised on it but they were so full that even the waiting list was full. The other practice told me in June they are full for tjr year for new patients and to call again in January. I had to wait a year until I got an appointment and then my diagnosis from that doctor...

Thank you so much! I’m going to shoot this to my mom. She already knows she has ADHD, but she says, “It’s not gonna help, now.” I got treated for bipolar disorder, 26 years after the onset of my symptoms, and it’s has made a huge difference. No matter how old you are, it’s worth it to get treated. For me, seeing a psychiatrist started helping in about a month. I’m not saying that always happens. It might not help but it can’t hurt, so if you can, why not? I think it may help my mom see you say it can help. ❤

What is help, medication. Could you make a video what medications help and a little science lesson about how the meds work

My doctor refused to treat or even talk about it and sent me to therapy. The therapist skirted the issue then avoided it entirely, and so I go untreated.

I struggle with overthinking self doubt/worth issues procrastination being overwhelmed anxiety etc etc but I started working with my faith in God and myself and channeling my energy into things that pour into me as well. it has drastically changed my life from a mental health standpoint.

I have all of these + then some. Thank God I discovered this, and thank you so much for the videos you're making! I always knew I was different and life has gotten way out of hand once I had kids. Knowing the reason is tremendously helpful, and I'm glad I found out (at the age of 36).
There is a statistic out there that apparently undiagnosed ADHDers lose on average 13 years of life compared to those who know what they're up against and treat the condition. So finding out about this is massive! Thank you, again!

Everything you just said 🙋🏾‍♀️
But I just want to say my reluctance to get help is that most of the advice online from professionals is difficult to follow and am worried I will just open another bottomless pit
