These eleven clean home habits have completely changed my life!

If you live in any type of home: A detached house, apartment, or even a dorm room... eventually it is going to need to be cleaned. It's a simple fact of life that nobody can avoid.

I get asked on a semi-regular basis how I am able to keep our cottage looking relatively clean and tidy at all times. Today, I share with you my secrets.

Only... they aren't really secrets! they are simply a collection of clean home habits that have reduced the burden of cleaning altogether - simply by doing them!

I hope this encourages you to establish a cleaning system that works for you. Remember though, habits take time to form! If you see something on my list of clean home habits that you want to incorporate in your own life, make sure to give it time to 'stick!'

Happy cleaning everyone!

I love doing a nightly reset! When I was a little girl, my dear mother would always say, “Let’s straighten things up quickly so that it looks pretty when we get up in the morning”. It usually took no more than five minutes but I loved doing it with her and in the end, looking over everything and hearing her say, “Look how lovely everything looks for tomorrow!” and then happily going to bed. I think about that every night and repeat the same process on a daily basis <3

Number 10 - at bedtime my mother always said it was time to "say goodnight to the house." - which meant walking through the house and picking up what needed picking up or put away., to fluff the cushions on the couch, to wash any dish that may have been used after dinner. I still say goodnight to my house before bedtime and I'll be 80 on my next birthday.

I love that you make all the beds and pray for those who sleep in those beds What a beautiful habit and a way to bless your family and your home 💕

I snap a photo of the messy or dirty area. Then spend 5 minutes cleaning. Then I look back at the before photo and see a huge difference. And knowing I only spent 5 minutes and got SO much done is incredibly motivating. Try it guys

I always put the dishes, in the dishwater, and clean the kitchen thoroughly, before sleeping at night because entering a clean Kitchen in the morning, is a great way, to start a day!👍

I try to do a little chore when I am waiting for something to happen - water to boil, microwave to finish doing its thing, coffee to brew. It’s a few minutes usually, but you can go and start a load of laundry or clean a countertop. That time passes regardless.

I just found you by accident when I was watching a video on the late Queen Elizabeth II and I love this video and am now subscribing. Simplifying in a simple way is something I want more of in my life to bring extra peace and serenity. Thank you for teaching me tips on tidying up and decluttering and even though I’m pretty good I can still do better and am a lifelong learner.

Like the tip about rearranging furniture. I
have experienced this with decor. AN OLD THING IN A NEW SPACE FEELS LIKE A NEW THING! 😊

Agree with all these tips. Thank you. My thing I say is cleaning up before bed is like giving yourself a gift and my kitchen is smiling at me when I get up!

Great tips! For #8 ; I have a small 3 oz spray bottle I fill with windex plus small glass microfiber cloth in each of my bathrooms. Routine after brushing my teeth is to use it on the mirror / sink. Less then a minute or two each night makes it sparkle. Change the cloth out each week with regular cleaning. Huge difference!

I just happened to see this video in my feed, and I’m so glad I watched it. There is tremendous wisdom in everything you said! I have very serious chronic health issues, so it isn’t possible for me to spend a day cleaning…so any time I am up, I am cleaning small areas. Like a kitchen cabinet with food on it. Very small jobs that when you add them together it is a lot!!
I also established “no clutter zones” in our home, mainly horizontal spaces like the kitchen counters and table and the dining table. So everywhere else was livable space. I also changed my mindset. When I see an untidy area, instead of thinking, “what a mess, ” I think, “LIFE is happening in our home!” And that is a good thing!!

Where do you get such a positive attitude about cleaning? I need friends like you! I’ve never heard of all these sweet ideas like the reset, praying over your kids beds, and finding joy in cleaning 🤯 such a good idea to pair things. I’ve had a lot of resentment around the idea of home but you make it seem life giving.

Have always done a reset at night. If the kitchen is clean and you pick up the rest of the living areas, the next morning its lovely...

I love how you phrase it as a reset. That resonates with me so much more than a chore or housework, which are triggering words to me. Thank you!

You have a very calm voice that I enjoy listening to. One thing that has made my life feel far more calm and under control is to do at least one load of laundry every day. I fold and hang clothes as I take them out of the dryer. I rarely have a pile of laundry and when I do it’s because my grandson wants his two blankets washed. I am still working on a place for everything and getting rid of more. Great video 🎉🎃
