The fact some politicians from back then are still in office is crazy

Those homes were very sturdy too! Used to work at a Sears in the 80s. Miss it!

Sears was absolutely my favorite store! You could buy clothes, appliances, to tractors all in one place! America lost something special when we lost Sears!

I currently live in a Sears home. Built in 1910, never rebuilt/remodeled but always maintained. Wonderful home, we wouldn't sell for anything. Very well know in town as 1 of 9 built.

Sear's deserved to stay. I can't believe it's gone.. Bankruptcy sucks..

You forgot to mention you'd have to build it yourself. They just supplied the supplies to build them

He meant they were discontinued by Sears in the mid 1990s. But there's companies still selling something simular today. They are called prefab and 3-D printed homes. They just aren't that popular in the U.S. because corporations want to build traditional overpriced homes. These are eco friendly and the materials are even cheaper. Americans are discouraged from buying them because they last longer than traditional homes with lower maintenance costs. There are even laws from lobbyists, in place to sabotage them being built. No different than banks trying to lure consumers away from credit unions.

I grew up on Jacksonville Oregon where there were 3 (maybe more) Sears houses, 1 mansion. I tell ya, they were beautiful!

My grandma bought her house from sears. They had to build it themselves, but over the years they added onto it( my grandpa was a contractor & did construction) so by time they were done they had a 5 bedroom, 3 full, 2 half bathroom house with a garage & a workshop.

I watched a video on this, I’m pretty sure what happened is they would send you the materials to build it yourself, but it got discontinued because of the Great Depression.

The mid 1900's ?!? That doesn't make anyone else feel so old. As early as 50 years ago 😂

little known fact about sears homes. you could only order for locations that were directly next to railroad tracks and it could take up to a year for delivery but was usually due to how long it took to find a train going down that specific line. and no it was almost always at a slight loss since everything needed to build it was included from nails to the curtains.

My good friend lived in one of these. It still had the Sears graphics inside the kitchen cabinets. Super cute house. It was very modest tho, definitely not the mega mansion.

There used to be a standard. That of which your house payment could not exceed a percentage of your monthly pay additionally a car payment had its own percentage. You can thank Regan for that change and the 1% that took advantage of it, causing the hyper inflation that has occurred in a very short time span in comparison.

You only got a shell. You have the sewage and plumbing, the foundation, the electrical and hvac. The drywall and fixtures and the complete finish to pay for.

Let's get this clear! That price was just for the building materials and delivery that's all!! you have to have somebody built it for you, or you built it yourself the parts and pieces were numbered so you can put it together
