Elon Musk has Tesla on a path to a new generation of battery technology that will change everything.

I've given over 100 people the opportunity to drive my Tesla Model 3 and I still get lots of people who say they don't want to drive it but this year I'm starting to hear a lot of them say that their next car will be electric. I find it encouraging that even though they have never an electric car they have heard enough about them to know they want their next car to be electric. This is amazing as only a year ago they had to drive it to know they wanted one and now it is becoming a given that electric cars are the only way to go. To me, this means we have passed the turning point in the mind of the car consuming public and the only thing left to do is build enough factories to meet the existing and fastly growing demand.

The big rig batteries needs to be very light to retain the load capacity of the truck. However the engine, transmission and fuel tanks does add a lot of weight that can be replaced by batteries in an electric semi.

If the battery pack size is cut in half that would definitely increase range since they will be getting rid of over 500 lbs
