As an IPL fan I don't like Mega auction and I am in favour with 8 retains and RTM cards.
If I see old players like Russell, Narine, Rinku, Rana who have been with the squad at least for 6 years now (Narine 12 years) go away and play for other teams I would not like that.
I think this will be the similar feeling for my other IPL franchise fan as well.

One of the worst illogical Argument I've ever heard, for the group who wants 2 players retention, claiming it as spirit of the tournament.
MI has scouted and recruited players like Bumrah, Hardik, Ishan.
Why didn't Punjab invest on scout? Who asked CSK to buy old players? Why RCB can't back their investments like Sarfaraz? Its their faults.
Look this year's champion.
In KKR team, Narine, Russel, Nitish are they players they have invested in. Venky, Chakravarty, Ramandeep, Rinku, Harshit Rana, Suyash Sharma, Angkrish Raghubangshi etc are the players they have scouted and prepared them. 9 out of 11 players are from their academy/investments, they have waited 10 years to build the team and process it.
Why can't RCB, CSK, Punjab do that?
If this is the case, no franchise will scout for players and every year same faces will be played years after years, ultimately turning IPL into PSL.

Mega auction is a must with max 2-3 retention. This is what makes ipl unpredictable. Otherwise it will be a competition of who has the best scouts which will be terrible. I don’t what ipl to turn into farmers league like European football leagues where single team dominate.

If we try to put things in a way it seems rational and goes in line with the demand of every franchisee and simultaneously making sure for any franchisee neither to have a comprehensive advantage by retaining every player they want nor putting them in a situation where they feel unfair measures been taken and also, last but not the least, the mega auction should have its ethnic essence in the eyes of the viewers as well.
So, on that note, I could sense the most logical measure in the form of drafting a retention policy of not more than 6 players overall. During the pre-stage of the retention, every team can retain maximum 4 players in advance with 2 RTMs available for them. Rather, I'd put everything in a nutshell in the following ways:
1. If retained 1 player, then 4 RTMs available.
2. If retained 2 players, then also 4 RTMs available
3. If 3 players, then 3 RTMs and if retained 4 players, then 2 RTMs
Last, if retained none, then also only 4 RTMs. The circuit of the RTMs will be fixated at 4 but the role of RTMs has to be invoked in the following mega auction. Meanwhile, I haven't mentioned about the salary cap and I'd not be a right person to think of the same and I feel the authorities are the better person to formulate plans for that.

And also, the limit of retaining overseas players will remain 2 like it has been in the past mega auctions. This will not only encourage the franchisee to leverage their Indian names more but also, the market during the auction also doesn't seems to be like a mini auction happening. There must be names who wouldn't have featured had it not been a mega auction.

Nd 1-2 rtm card based on no of retention like 2018 auction nd uspe max 4 Indian nd 2 overseas oly usse zyada ya kam nhi isse ek balance bhi rahega Indian aur overseas core nd rtm card se kuch teams ko apna purana core bhi mil jayega 4-5 player retention pe 1rtm card aur 6 player pe 0 rtm card 2-3 players pe 2 card ig ye fair enough hoga 2-3 retention is bs in the name of freshness when certain franchises don’t know how to make a team why shld other teams loose their own made stars to these team….
