I've got one unnamed Cuphea in a basket, little cigar plant. I see lots of seedlings in the pot but can't figure out where the seeds are to collect them! The hummingbirds hit it all day long. My porch is mostly shady so the only way to have enough sun for it up there is in a pot I can put on the railing. I really like working with the shade, it's just a matter of watching your space and seeing where things will be happy.

I was so happy to see your Stellar Ruby Magnolia as I have just recently discovered them and have 3 waiting to be planted. I got a little scared when you talked about the evergreen magnolias not being as cold hardy and you said something about zones 8-9. Maybe I misunderstood. I certainly don’t expect you to remember all planting zones on every plant when you’re doing a tour, it just gave me a little scare. 😀 On the screen it said 7-9. I’m 7B. I had previously watched all your videos on the stellar Ruby and in the one with the inventor, he talked about how his had seen a few nights below zero and had no damage. Loved seeing how yours has grown -it’s beautiful.

I really like how you made the comment about the plant that "makes the others stand out for the rest of the season". That struck a chord with me. It is important for some to be the backdrop when they aren't blooming. That is still an important role in the garden. I will definitely consider that in the future. Really like the Chamaecyparis 'Paul's Gold', Carex 'Feather Falls', & Magnolia foliage combination. I have a C. 'Everest' not quite as vigorous but after 3 years is almost that size and tighter.

I planted a mail order "Stellar Ruby" magnolia at the top of my sloping, west-facing rock garden this past late winter. It was not in great shape when it came, but has taken off with good care. In the spring I came across an "Uncle Fogy" pine that I had to have to sprawl prostrate down my rock garden, so I planted it right next to the SR. WhenI saw your SR in this video, I realized how big it would get. Do you think they can share the same root space (SR might shade the UF roots), or should I transplant the SR to a place with more room? Need guidance!
