Following A 1950's Suit Dress Pattern: McCalls 5280

In this video I am following a suit dress pattern from 1959. McCalls 5280. This pattern features the most darling bolero jacket with a bow detail and a sheath dress beneath. And while I did make a few mistakes I do think it is a solid pattern and makes a delightful ensemble in a very classic style. The late fifties, early sixties really had a lovely style since we are moving away from the full skirts of the new look and they style really well in modern day too. So if you are looking to mix a bit of vintage style into your everyday warddrobe its a good place to start.

I think the jacket looks adorable. I've been sewing for 20 years and shawl collars are still the bane of my existence

"I'm adjusting the skirt to be more flattering on me" Correct, you made that garment look incredible on you. It is ⭐peak⭐ hand-crafted

Ah, herringbone. Such a classy pattern, but so twisty in cotton 😢
It turned out pretty cute. I was going to suggest markering and then you said it 😁

The green laciness is what dreams are made of 💚💚💚
Are you Anne Hathaway's younger sister?

Ugh to mosquitoes! They're particularly nasty here in BC's eastern Fraser Valley due to all the rain we had. So I feel for you with them. :)

I like the green and white lace item you're wearing. :)

Such a lovely suit dress! My mom had similar clothes to it back in the late 50s, early 60s, some of which her mom made for her. My grandma was such a good seamstress that she never followed a pattern, but could make pretty much whatever anyone wanted if she could see something. Mom said that the garments she made were so good that you couldn't tell they were homemade.

I love watching videos like this where people show how they put things together and sew them. I'm a novice sewer, and this is quite educational and interesting for me. Thank-you. :)

I guess I'm the first viewer of this video, and the first commenter. Ooh! :D haha
