I dont think people understand the difference between culture and religion. Religion doesnt equal culture toxic cultural practices dont equal religion and toxic religious practices dont equal culture. I think too many people confuse islam and Muslims with cultural practices in some places in the middle east. Im not a Muslim or involved in any orginized religion but religion does bring people peace and confert and purpose in their lives. I think people would have a much better understanding of islam if we separated it from culture. As most muslim people i personaly know do treat women with incredibly high levels of respect as its apart of the religion to do so. But in certian cultures women are treated like less than. I think we need to be more respectful of muslim people because eveyone has thr right to practice their religion as long as they arent hurting others.

I've worked with women from Iran, Irak and Afghanistan who definitely didn't feel like their religion made them into queens. Rather 2nd class citizens, being women....
