Proprio in una di queste case modeste venne alla luce il 12 aprile Antonio Maria, figlio di Giacomo e Maria Gianelli. Una nascita accaduta 223 anni fa, ma che continua ancora oggi a donare sentimenti e spiritualità perché quel bambino non è diventato un uomo qualunque. Anche dopo la sua morte, avvenuta il 7 giugno 1846, il nome di Sant’Antonio Gianelli continua a diffondersi attraverso le Figlie di Maria SS.ma dell’Orto, le quali coraggiosamente ed instancabilmente sono presenti ovunque nel mondo con le missioni dalla parte dei più poveri. Profonda religiosità che dal 1951, anno in cui venne proclamato Santo da Papa Pio XII, si rinnova il 2 giugno di ogni anno alla Cerreta durante la festa in suo onore organizzata dalle suore Gianelline. Sin da bambino partecipava alle funzioni religiose della Chiesa e vista la sua dedizione allo studio, la famiglia lo iscrisse nel 1795 alla scuola parrocchiale di Castello distante tre chilometri. Il giovane Antonio percorreva a piedi il sentiero dalla Cerreta a Castello con qualsiasi tempo, spesso scalzo per non consumare le scarpe. Prima di rincasare si caricava di fascine di legna per il fuoco, perché la serata la trascorreva studiando e scrivendo i compiti alla luce del focolare. Raggiunta l’età di 18 anni, con l’aiuto di una ricca signora di Genova proprietaria dei terreni coltivati dal padre, entra nel Seminario di Genova ed a soli 23 anni viene ordinato Sacerdote. Il 12 gennaio 1829 istituisce a Chiavari l’ordine delle Figlie di Maria SS.ma dell’Orto inizia così una straordinaria avventura a servizio del Vangelo che continua ancora oggi a seminare bene nei quattro angoli del mondo. Morirà povero, come aveva sognato, all’età di 57 anni stroncato dalla tisi.
