In today's video, I explore an abandoned hospital with everything including medical equipment, needles, and blood samples. This hospital has been closed for 20+ years. They had a lot of difficult financial issues and in the 1970s they had closed only to reopen and have the same problems it faced before ultimately leading to its abandonment. It's a mystery still til today why they left everything behind.

The lights you asked about are called Surgical lights also know as surgical lighting or operating lights. The one drug you picked up Propranolol and is a Beta blocker used to treat heart problems, high blood pressure, helps treat anxiety and also used to treat migraine headaches. The Zofran is used to prevent nausea and vomiting, caused by Cancer Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, and surgery. This a class of drugs called serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonistic, it works by blocking the action of serotonin a natural substance found in the body that may cause nausea and vomiting. Methylpred powder is a med that used to treat inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis and allergic disorders, endocrine gland disorders and conditions that effects the skin, eyes, lungs, stomach, the nervous system, or blood cells. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. (pronounced Ma-lox-i-cam). Dang I always knew my RN education of Pharmacology would come in handy outside a hospital! LOL Retired Surgical Trauma RN!

Great explore, but seeing all those meds left behind was sad. They are so expensive and could have been donated somewhere.

As a nurse I love abandoned hospital explorations but this one is by far the most shocking. That propofol being left like that is...terrifying. That's the stuff that killed Michael Jackson, it's a powerful anesthesia drug. I wish I could go on explores like this to point out what all the stuff is! The xrays of the head look more like CT scans and the ultrasound scans don't look like a pregnancy to me. It was tough to see but I didn't see a uterus in the images. They often use ultrasound for things like tumors/masses/visualizing organs like the liver/kidneys/appendix.

Steve, please always wear gloves and face mask especially when you are exploring hospitals just to be safe.

Actually, it would probably be a good idea to have this documentation delivered to the local news station of the township that this facility is in.
If the local people knew of the extent of this situation, they would most likely start an action to resolve it.

Built in 1968, the 52 bed hospital once included an emergency room and intensive care units employing 150 staff members. A few years after opening, a corruption scandal engulfed the county and Hancock Memorial Hospital was plunged into financial trouble. It was in 1974 that it first closed down. Community leaders banded together and formed the Hospital Corp., a nonprofit organization that would lease the hospital from the Hancock County Authority and run the daily operations. The plan worked and the hospital reopened in Spring 1985. However, by the early 1990s, the threat of closing again loomed overhead. The Hospital Corporation was close to $1 million in debt and looked to Quorum, a hospital-management company, to bring in a CEO to help avoid another shutdown. Unable to make payroll the Hospital Corp. looked to the county commission for immediate assistance. The county commission set aside $1.7 million to help with the short term debt and assist the Hospital Corp. Quorum instantly restructured all the old debts, replaced two popular doctors, and cut 40 staff members in an effort to save thousands. In 1995 the Hancock County Hospital Authority began to question the Hospital Corp. about the dwindling funds in the reserve account set aside by the county commission. Quorum reportedly didn't respond to requests of the hospital's finances. This caused a rift with the County Authority and Hospital Corporation since the Authority was not allowed to sit in on board meetings. The County Hospital Authority the allegedly found that Hospital Corp. was not carrying enough insurance for the emergency room doctors. Hospital management stated it was just a clerical error but the Authority had enough. In 1998, escorted by the lawyers and the sheriff, the County Hospital Authority stormed into the CEO's corner office and demanded his resignation. The CEO reportedly packed up and left without a fight. A year later cuts to Medicaid funding were the final nail in the coffin. A series of layoffs followed, culminating in the facility's closure by the end of 2001, leaving nothing but a nickname- 'Bad Debt Hospital'. Hancock county was largely supported by the textile industry until the companies moved to Mexico. Other industrial employers wouldn't come to Hancock due to the high cost of insurance. Without a local hospital, future industrial expansion in the county stifled. Employers would not commit to building a new factory without a hospital nearby due to high insurance costs. County officials attempted to create a more cost-effective clinic to replace the hospital but state laws would not allow funding. After the hospital closed, 9, 000 people were left stranded with the closest hospital 90 minutes away. Ambulance companies charged outrageous per mile fees not covered by insurance. The county's heart attack death rate rose 40 percent without a local hospital. Today, Hancock Memorial Hospital remains abandoned. After the closure, nobody ever came back to remove the equipment or electronics. These items along with tons of patient records remained entombed inside the hospital. The Hancock County Hospital Authority still owns the facility and hopes to one day reopen.

You have to take care of yourself Steve, a place like a hospital is very dangerous, sometimes there is a virus that gets stuck in that place and is still alive even though it's been years, especially since the place has been abandoned, I don't want you to get sick 😊

Ty for this explore, the chance to see areas of the hospital that normally we don't get to see. This is a very dangerous place with the bio hazard material, drugs and needles. I was praying that a drug addict squatter wasn't in there. All the personal info left behind is definitely in violation. Steve, would you please keep gloves, masks and hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes in your pack back at all times. Again, ty and stay safe always. God bless.

The substance in the blood collection tubes that looks like urine is actually a gel that separates plasma from blood cells during centrifugation.
