So, this is a video I wanted to finish since a long time. This movie is one of my all time favorite, and I really wanted to make something about it. It's probably not my best video, but if you do not know this movie, please, watch it. It's a masterpiece. (and if you want, you can read the book too hehe)

my god... when he said 'you mean a great deal to this house' he means himself but he associates his whole identity so closely with his profession that there's just no separating it -- she doesn't get it, a normal person doesn't go 'oh i literally AM my job'

aadddad he's literally so capable. he could be a top butler anywhere. there's a woman who loves him, his dad is proud of him, he just took absolutely no opportunities!

i read the book and... you know what, he wasn't definitely wrong to repress his emotional self for his own profession, but also it's far from optimal. reading the book, you can almost feel as if there's something deeply wrong with all of this, but at the same time it's perfectly rational to just keep calm and move on like English people do in the book. but weirdly i think the girl/maid of darlington hall who ran away with the second footman is actually more convincing in the book where she writes 'we don't have money but who cares we have love and that's all anyone could ever want anyway' which is such a strong truth that she might be the only wise person in the book, who made the right decisions.

Coming from someone who hasn't seen the movie, I have to say that this is really something beautiful. I loved every second of it. The entire video is just sooo perfect, amazing job on this.

i can't even watch this movie. this is so unnecessary, it hurts my chest. i hate it right now, but i'm afraid i'll watch it and be so disgusted with it that i secretly romanticise this kind of Yearning™??? you know? and that's super toxic, i never want my future self to have to be so repressed like that, that's torture to me, that idea.
but i think, there's a chance that, if i manage my feelings about it quite well, it'll be one of those cautionary tales, and i'll be encouraged every time i think of the movie, to actually say as i mean. like how a horror movie teaches you to be genre-savvy in the sense that you don't go into sus places or speak with sus people, this sort of... drama... idk what this is, teaches a different kind of genre-savvy, in that you don't repress feelings and just... let emotions happen, sometimes.
