This song is one of the best country songs ever written. One of the best popular songs of any type....Dolly has a laid back style here, but the song is SOOO dramatic, the poetry is breath-taking (describing Jolene's beauty), and the amazing spiirtual power of the singer, who confronts Jolene, not with anger, rage, or threats, but with respect, sorrow, and a request. She lays out the bare truth, and begs Jolene to be kind to subtly..."What kind of a person do you ant to be?" I have a feeling that jolene will listen, and they will become friends for life...not close friends, but the kind of people who can count on each driving guitar riff is chords and the truth...AMEN. Dolly is AMAZING. The song 9 to 5 is among the best work songs ever written...the lyrics are SPOT ON.
