other solution:
x^3 +1/x^3=(1+1/x)^3 - 3(x+1/x)=(x+1/x) * [(x+1/x)^2 -3]

put x into (x+1/x)^2 - 3
and we get 5
5=(x+1/x)^2-3 => (x+1/x)=sqrt(8)
and x^3 +1/x^3=5*sqrt(8)

After I found x =√2+1, I calculated, x^3= (√2+1) ^3=5√2+7, and 1/(x^3)=1/(5√2+7)=5√2-7, so x^3+1/(x^3)=5√2+7+5√2-7=10√2.

I showed in a similar question how to solve by a methodology to get x= 1 + root(2) quickly.
Then x^3 is roo(50) - 7 and 1/x^3 is using rationalizing denominator root(50)+7 adding to 2*root(50) = 10 root(2)

Your solution takes too much time for a
. Cambridge Interview question, would fail.
Cambridge wants to see methodologies and not tricks.
