NASA and MIT researchers unveiled a new aeroplane wing design capable of automatically changing shape in response to aerodynamic changes. The wings are made using a new low-density "metamaterial" composed mostly of empty space which is as stiff as a rubber-like polymer, researchers revealed. "The result is a wing that is much lighter...thus much more energy efficient", they added.
