1971 Dodge Challenger R/T: Start Up, Exhaust, Test Drive, POV and Review

👋 In today's review we check out an older generation for the Dodge Challenger! This is a 1971 model with the R/T trim which they only made around 4,500! Since we review so many brand new vehicles, it's neat when we get to check out classics and where cars came from! This Dodge Challenger R/T had pretty low miles and was in really good shape! On the exterior you can see it has very clean lines and great proportions! The front end has a nice shape to it with aerodynamics in mind as you can see in the grill and lower air dams! The wheels have that classic design with 15'' two tone wheels and the white stripe running down the side is perfect with the color combo! The rear has a trunk mounted spoiler that looks great along with the tail light design and quad exhaust! The interior is very basic by modern standards but has everything you need making this a great drivers car! It also has the pistol grip on the shifter and while that is smooth and easy to use, the clutch pedal is like pushing a brick! It's very tight compared to the newer models, but you get used to it after driving it! The seats are comfortable and there is even plenty of room in the back seats and the trunk! I found out after filming that this car had three point seat belts and the over the shoulder part was stored up in the headliner! I didn't get to drive the car far, but it was a blast to see how much you really have to pay attention and muscle the car, it's a true drivers car where you have to be alert but can still have fun while driving! It also has a great V8 rumble to it!!

When I was about 8, a guy I was introduced to became a friend of the family and he had this same car except it was the non RT and I'll never forget how smooth he was using the manual! A very nice antique from the early 70s. Hope you all have a great Christmas!🌲

The new Dodge Challenger deserves a reward. They did such an amazing job of recreating the original it's second to none on that measure. And it's one of the best looking modern cars to boot.

Wow, this one takes me back. I was in high school when this model came out. You can definitely see today’s Challenger lines in this 71 model. My first car was a 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring. Those were the true muscle car days…..the Challenger, the Mustang Mach 1, the Chevy Camaro and Malibu SS. Pedal to the medal! Good video! 🔥

That is a beautiful car! I have a 2020 50th Anniversary Challenger R/T in F8 Green and you can definitely see the resemblance. Dodge does the best job of making a cool older design look modern. Awesome cars and great video!

When I was 19 back in 1983 I was a Chevy guy, until I went to look at a 70 R/T 383Magnum!As I approached the car from the back and saw four chrome exhaust tips sticking out through the valance panel and full lengh tail lights and walking around the side of the car seein 1971 tail stripe and upper body R/T stripes, white on B5 medium metallic with white bucket seat/ console - slap stick automatic and then what really blew me away was seeing that bulg hood, hood pins 383Magnum on the sides of the mean as hell hood scoops and then the beautifully mean ass grill! Good bye Camaro, Chevelle etc.!! I bought that car and a 73 318 challenger and had to put the R/T hood, grill wheels etc.on the 73 as the 79 R/T had been undercoated right over the salt from Pa winters! The entire car was held together with bondo! But someone was awesome with that bondo cuz it looked great 😅 still think about how I was moved by the racecar look and beauty of the 70 challengers! Wish I could have another 79 or 71 R/T!! Thiught I'd share a little nostalgia with you!

Great job again and great idea to have some retro videos of the past! Definitely brings back some nostalgia to some and that's a good thing!

Im European and this is one of my dream cars...Ever since i saw the Vanishing point movie (original one of course not the remake) i have a huge love for the 70s Challenger. It has so much soul and it literally defines a word muscle in muscle car...It just feels like its coming from a better era where you still had freedom. Plus this one being a manual is just a huge plus for me..

These cars drive and handle great, funny thing you have to get used to them for people who are not used to old cars...I can fly around corners and basically drive it the same speed around corners/canyon roads as newer performance cars...Each car has its own feel and line you need to take in the road...

I had a 70 Challenger RT 440 Magnum 4bbl and ran low 12's in the 1/4 mile, this car was stock I only tuned it up, adjusted timing and replaced the 750 carter with a 850 carter carb..

Old standard transmissions are different than modern ones, but once you know you can really hammer them upshift, downshift and powershift!

I own one of these and the clutch is definitely "heavy". But a BLAST to drive, ab-so-lute-ly.... And you'll never see a better looking domestic made car on the road than the 70 Challengers.
