You make some very great points. Several years ago when I first started the program I lived in an oxford house. I met my sponsor there but it took several years for before he became my sponsor. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I saw all of the progress and success that he amassed in life and finally decided that I wanted what he had. Crazy how that works. I started recovery st 28 yrs old, I dont like when I hear men sponsoring women or women sponsoring a man ♂️, to easy to romanizing the relationship.

I fired my sponsor after the first year and left AA the 2nd year. I am Sober 8 years now and I believe only because I got as far away as I could from the toxic AA cult.

Do you even need a sponsor? People on YouTube state you don’t even though in programs it states you do…I read someone was 20years sober without a sponsor.

You should look up the meaning of a cult before you utilise the word.
From.my perspective, AA is not a cult.
Its an inclusive program;but what is one there for?
To get and stay sober.You do not have to like everybody and you may not.

The sponsorship thing where the sponsor has a sponsor has a sponsor sounds so nice and cozy but if you need a coach to guide you through recovery l would highly recommend you find someone in a professional capacity where there's a lot more accountability.
