I have a breeding pair of guinease who sleep in the chicken coop with 3 chooks and roam during the day, I also have 12 living in a huge 3.5m high cage with high roosts, they free range during the day as well, returning to their cage at sunset. And the one guinea who defies all guinea traits - LP - sleeps in a cage in the lounge room, and hangs outside in the chicken run while they are free ranging during the day. LP like cuddles and pats, and will sit on my leg or arm while we watch movies, or under my chair while I work on the laptop. Yes, they are loud - when they need to be there is a decidedly insistent tone - like when a snake or eagle is about, or a strange vehicle. And they eat thousands of ticks every day. I also have lyre birds nesting on my property, and they imitate the sounds they hear, and often i hear phone or alarm sounds coming from the bush - and they also imitate the guinea sounds too!

I love guinea fowl! Best bug getters on the planet! I just don’t have trees so they just take off and become coyote food. :(

I was wanting to get 4 or 5 to keep the ticks down in my yard. But now I guess not...

I have a male and female guinea in my flock of chickens. The female, no exaggeration loudly from about 11-4 does that ‘muck-rack muck-rack muck-rack….’ Consistently. There’s no pause, not 10 minutes of silence. Is this normal?
To say she’s been driving us crazy for a year is an understatement.

Guineas are the noisiest things in the universe except the BigBang. Fact.

What are the benefits of keeping them? Do you think they’re worth it?

Meanwhile I have seen several vids about this and others beg to differ. How come keeping ducks and geese is normal but not Guinea Fowl ??
I have someone keeping peacocks streets away from me and I still can clearly hear them.

Interesting, my ginis go sleep with chickens, they go to coop when called, are quiet mostly, unless fox is around, lay eggs only in nests with in coop, they are extremely heavy and unable to fly properly so i need to make ladders for them to climb on high places. All squeamish ones were killed off by fox, so only most docile remained, and they reproduced, so now i ended up with some sort of natural selection docile ginis. Panicking and flying off away from safety killed rest.

My place was nice and peaceful until my neighbor got some. Now we have to listen to this crap all day.
