2 of Americans best oil filters cut open to see the difference. I have had a few viewers comment that Fram extra guard has changed. It did but is it better?

It's Not often a company swaps out a product and you end up with a higher quality item 🤯

My Cessna 182Q with an air-cooled Continental O-470U/TS (470 cubic inch opposed/boxer/flat-6) uses Champion Aerospace oil filters, along with tens of thousands of other aircraft. They look very nice inside and out. Great vid - Thanks

First Brands owns both Fram and Champ and has been co-mingling designs from time to time for a while. The AAP "Fram" Drive filters are also Champ Labs made Fram. They also use an orange can, just no sure grip.

Wow the filter media looks different also. That’s crazy. Had no idea.

They are putting silicone in the champ labs extra guard here in the states. Atleast down here. I’m that guy in the isle at Walmart opening all the boxes looking at the filters before I buy them. Lol

I went to one canadian tires and my specific filter and a few others they are the new champs lab. A friend bought same model filter and it was the older one.bought them around same day. Stocks are mixed up. Told him to return it and buy the one from the store i went to

My fram 7317 has a red silicone seal anti drain back valve. Some other csnadian tires still had only the old frams in stock

Either filter would be adequate for standard oil change intervals. I, personally hate monopolies and it saddens me to see the bigger companies buying up all their competitors as is currently the rage in our country.

It is definitively an improvement but I wish you had done the flashlight test to see if the bypass was leaking on the Champ-made filter

The center core is more of an instant give away than the end caps. Doesn't matter, champ filters leak oil at the stick in bypass filter. At least the fram paper ends gave a little filtration at the inserted bypass. If the bypass isn't glued in, nothing else matters. Instant bypass.

Verified bill, just went and picked one up. The orange can of death champ made has a silicone anti drain back valve. Weird the one you have doesn’t.

Definitely changed my mind about these oil filters. Frams trying to improve for sure. For the price you can’t beat it.

Ps just also bought picked up a super tech oil filter by Walmart for my 4Runner for $2.98 USD, I open the box and the filter is white kinda like the synthetic media that comes and high and oil filters. Wire backed. I’m really curious what this filter media is under a microscope. Is it paper or like a fiberglass material kind of media? Have you ever seen this. If I could have your email I’d send you pictures.

Love those silicon anti-drainback valves. But, I haven't owned a car that needed a anti-drainback valve in over 20 years.

I made a video 3yrs ago about the weakness of the extra guard’s center core and how the ecore design used in Fram Drive filters was a better design. First Products bought out both Fram and Champion labs, allowing the ECORE design to be transferred over to Fram.

obove the metal ends I'd probably prefer the silicone anti-drain back valve. For regular oil change intervals (3k) I have no problem using the cardboard frams.

The champ lab fram I got has silicone anti-drainback valve.

I've been using Champ Labs filters for years. I started when I could get them a little over 2 bucks apiece, and even though they're close to 4 bucks now they're still a good filter for regular oil change intervals.

If that is the PF63 alternative they had to increase the flow rate to accommodate the New GM Diesel application. AC delco PF63 also has the same style now. Also the E core design flows a ton of oil.

Thanks bills. Been waiting to hear your opinion on this. You can see the insides are different, at Walmart you can check, one looks like it’s OEM Honda and one looks like A/C delco..

There doing this same thing with the Endurance filters. Picked a few off the Walmart shelf and I was surprised. Haven’t seen it with the ultra synthetic or the tough guard.

Must be like that everywhere. I’m in the states. Pennsylvania.

Are you sure you didn't mix up the counterfeit and real filters? The lettering on the supposed counterfeit is crisper and more in line with most FRAM filters. The construction is obviously better.

I'd like to know definitively, what advantage the orange valves have over the black anti-drainback valves. Are they more flexible in the cold? Do they last longer without getting hard? Do they hold their shape better? And what does it matter, as when you need anti-drainback performance, it's after shut down and the engine and oil is already hot, so they're both going to seal just fine. Is it just a way to "drain" more cash out of our pockets with marketing? Put both in the freezer and show me the black one doesn't work. BTW, filter brands and their choice of silicone or black nitrile still must meet manufacturer's spec for engine warranty.
