Scabs has captured my heart, it is instantaneous love at first sight. Glad she is living her best life. Francis is a remarkable dog, as well.

You know, I used to like Alton and then disliked him because I perceived his politics were different than mine. (I am conservative. I thought he was liberal.) Now I like him a great deal and respect him because he REFUSES to disclose his politics and I am an idiot for letting MY politics get in the way of appreciating a person for just his or her talents and skills.
Thank you, Mr Brown, for helping add back some civility to this world.

Me, to my wife: “There’s dog hair everywhere!”
Thunder & Rogue, simultaneously: “WHAT?! When did we get a DOG?!”

You are amazing for rescuing a beautiful fur baby! Thanks to all parents that have given a “forever home” to animals in need. I’m in the process of doing this also. God bless you all!

She was rescued from one county over from me. Our rescue group works with that county shelter. I remember the day she was rescued. I offered to foster her but she went straight to Atlanta humane and found Alton so I couldn't be happier. I also allowed me to have room in my home for a neglected Chinese Crested that was rescued soon after and needed a family!

All of our dogs are rescues. Jethro was just born into a slightly neglectful home that didn't stay on top of the fleas. When I got him as a tiny one-pounder he must have had 10k fleas! I was afraid to put anything on such a tiny chihuahua puppy except Savin dust, but I put that on him when we got home. It didn't help much, but I kept sprinkling him every day for two weeks. After two weeks he'd gained about half a pound and the fleas kept coming. I finally broke down and put a tiny dose of Frontline on him and the fleas were GONE! For the first time in his life! That night, my sweet little baby slept the sleep of the dead. He'd never been able to just sleep, without being bitten before, poor baby! He just piled up on the pillow behind my neck and SLEPT. He slept so hard and so deeply that he didn't even wake up when I moved him! Ellie was rescued from a "breeder" that thought it was appropriate for a tiny chihuahua puppy to LIVE OUTSIDE IN BELOW FREEZING WEATHER!!! All she had was her mother and a wooden box turned upside down with a hole cut in it so they could get in and out. I assume they had a blanket of some sort in there, but I don't know. All I know FOR SURE is that it was below freezing on January first 2011 when I picked Ellie up. When I got her she was freezing and shaking and I put her inside my heavy, warm coat and she instantly relaxed. It was probably the first time she'd been warm in months! I just wish I could have liberated Ellie's Mommy, too. Bailey is my son's basset hound rescue. She was the dog of a husband who apparently ran out on the family and didn't take his dog. She came to us as a recent mother, but no pups. We didn't know it, but she had a RAGING INFECTION in her uterus because she hadn't expelled all of the placentas when her litter of pups was born. We only found out about it after breeding her proved unsuccessful and we decided to have her spayed so the boys Jethro and Buddy the basset hound didn't lose their minds twice each year. Buddy was also a rescue that we got from the family that bought him as a puppy but needed to re-home him. They said he was an outside dog because he was too obnoxious and excitable in the house. Duh. A dog who is kept outside on a chain IS going to be rambunctious when they get to be INSIDE WITH THEIR PACK!!! DUH, mother-f&^)ers! He never gave us ONE SECOND of trouble his whole life. He was the best dog we ever had. And I'm crying right now because we had to put him down on December 30th, 2019. And no, I shouldn't still be mourning him four and a half months later, but he was SUCH a good dog! BTW, my son had wanted a basset hound since he saw Alton Brown's old basset hound on Good Eats! And now we've come full circle!

Poor Scabigail! So glad she has you two and her squid now. My fur babies have all been rescues, and it's so heartwarming to see them bloom. Thanks for adopting!

Yes . This is cool. I learned along time ago. People don't spoil their pets. Pets spoil us. I had a cat that was just so cool, would follow me around the house. She had a great attitude for visitors and even dogs. She was just so cool for a cat. Nice that you two adopted this little dog.

I've always wondered, where did her name Scabigail, come from?

With the exception of my first puppy that my parents got for me when I was a small child all of my fur-babies have been rescues. My only complaint is that I have had to say goodbye to them too soon. Even Buddy, who we adopted when he was about 2 years old eventually left us after 16 years. We now have Molly, who is almost 8, and Roadie, who is 4. Eventually the day will come when my fur-babies will have to say goodbye to either my wife or me. That might be worse than us saying goodbye to them.
