They should have removed all the scenes with Alfrid and kept the Thorin's funeral and Gandalf's talk with Thranduil

YES. I was so pissed when I first went to see this in the theater and he just slipped away. Now I finally have closure ^^

I love the detail in those last seconds of the Troll before he dies. You'd think that Alfrid died by asphyxiation, just as he was suffocating the Troll. But if you look closely in detail, when the Troll falls on his knees, you hear a crunching sound and Alfrid's legs immediately stop fidgeting. I don't think Alfrid died of asphyxiation here, I think when the Troll fell on his knees, the impact made him bite, and so the Troll must've bitten hard on Alfrid (the Troll's teeth biting right into Alfrid's gut). The Troll probably almost bit him in half.

Atleast he died while killing a troll and kinda saving gandalf

I was always surprised he got away in the theatrical version, I thought for sure he was going to have some ridiculous karmic death just like this one. But then I thought, maybe he ran away to Rohan and became Wormtongue's father. (I have no idea if the dates line up, but there does seem to be a resemblance there :P)
