Boris Johnson warning to Putin: Sweden must be free to join NATO

Boris Johnson warned Sweden and Finland must be free to decide whether to join NATO without 'fear of retaliation' as he visited the countries to sign historic security assurance declarations today. Boris Johnson sent a stark message to Vladimir Putin as he inked pledges to 'bolster military ties' and support both countries should they come under attack. Speaking alongside Swedish counterpart Magdalena Andersson at her Harpsund country residence, Mr Johnson said it was a matter for the country's people whether to apply for membership of the military alliance.

Sweden should just say to Putin, "Withdraw your troops from Ukraine and respect its territorial integrity now, or we will join NATO, your
choice. Its not a threat, nor a demand, its just stating a fact." and leave it at that, plain and simple. Let Putin explain that to his supporters in Russia.

Boris Johnson maybe unpopular in the U.K., as was Churchill before WWII, but he is much appreciated and needed in Europe during these uncertain times. Ultimately it is up to the British people to decide if he stays in office. I hope he does, just until this Russian Special Military Operation is over.
