Being diverse doesn’t mean it is void of racism. The argument is flawed from the start

Honestly, unlike them, i appreciate Sg more after i start travelling. Sg is safe, vibrant, small in a good way, efficient in many ways, good food and cheaper in public transport (australia for example). And! Oh my, our government agencies are much much more efficient.

If she's never experienced racism there, it's pretty obvious she was only there for a week or two as a tourist.

I have lived, worked 17 years there, it is a racist country

I beg to differ. U cannot compare Australia to Singapore only based on Sydney. That's a shallow debate. Sydney is just a small part of Australia.

My friend lived there for 8 years and said it is a very racist country.

I lived and worked in Sydney, and resided in the north shore area for over 10 years. Racism: plenty of it in supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and even in places of worship. One had to live long enough to realise that one is second class. 😮

Don’t joke, been there for 3 weeks and I felt racism enough to never visit again.

Per most of the comments so far, I have to agree that the longer you live there, the more you realize that there is racism. The racism is not shown to others on a day to day basis, it is embedded within their actions and words that you will slowly feel it. Being in the same age group as the two guests, this is what you will feel after a period of more than 3-4 years.

My son was on holiday in Melbourne last month with my wife and grandkids. He was driving on the road and some random guy just drove up next to him and wind down his window and shouted something. So my son asked him what did he do wrong. The guy just sped off. I have lived overseas for 8 years. I have been refused service at bar, kiosk even in university bar where I was undergraduate, and also at food counter at convention centers in Europe where I was attending conference. I have come to the conclusion that unless under special situation, a large percentage of white people will behave as racists to a larger or lesser extent.

It is racist, my first time to Australia was to Perth to attend a friend’s wedding and literally just after collecting the rental car to drive to an AirBnb, encountered a group of teenagers spewing racists comments at my parents & me in our car during a stop at a traffic light.

In the city centre in Sydney, yes. Try outskirts.

When they say be careful of racists in America, they obviously don't mean LA or left leaning places that have a large community of foreigners. The same logic applies for Australia.

I was there on a holiday last year & I was being pointed middle finger at by a teenager. Even called me fucking Asian. Hello, I was just waiting for traffic & didnt do anything. Madness

Not even a few years there come on. Wait till you live there for 5-10 years and you’ll be telling a different story of Sydney, YES Sydney.

I’ve never had someone drive past me and yell racist slurs except in Sydney, and I spent three and half years in Texas other than living in Singapore.
