I worked at an orphanage many years ago. (Nazareth Children's Home) I can tell you that nearly all of the children had serious mental issues and baggage. I could write a book about the anti-social behavior I saw while there. Prior abuse ...physical, mental, and sexual was normal for these kids. Most of these kids either came from dysfunctional homes or were given up for adoption at birth. They needed and were starved for individual kind you may get at home, but not usually in an orphanage. All of us need to feel like we are loved and wanted. Little Natalia was not so fortunate. To grow up in an environment in which you are on your own, with no parental support or genuine love is a nightmare. Little Natalia faced this tough world with no parents, moral support, or financial support. She wasn't just an orphan, she was an orphan with severe disabilities. With all of the odds against her, she was then thrown into a family with evil, psychotic parents. Natalia's strange behavior at times is understandable, justifiable, and warranted. With all that little girl has been through, I would be shocked if she didn't have lingering mental health issues. I hope and pray that Natalia will be able to cope with all that has happened to her and that she will be surrounded by people who love and care for her.

Being a foster parent myself this story really floored me. Our foster son moved in with my husband & my 15 year old son when he was 14 years old. We are proud of both of our sons. Our foster son is now 28 years old, a firefighter & just got his private pilot license as well. All our son needed was stability, love, security a safe place he could call home, food in the fridge & a great tutor to catch him up academically . Poor Natalia really went through hell. So many adults failed that poor girl. The Barnett’s should be in prison. Thank you for your commentary.

I don’t think you understood what Christine was trying to do regarding the homework and her pepper spraying Natalia. She was trying to force an 8 year old to do high school calculus, and Natalia kept telling Christine she didn’t know how to do it. That’s when Christine called her a liar and pepper sprayed that poor baby. That woman is beyond evil.

Thank you for doing this podcast AND for being the lawyer to defend the innocent. God bless you ❤ One last thing… Christine claimed Natalia tried to shove her into an electric fence and Christine fell down. I call bs because in one episode Natalia was having big issues with moving a garbage can. PS Michael had a lot more to do with her torture than he’s saying. He’s a drama king, trying to hide his involvement.

I've gone through many similar things to Natalia. The abuse does cause mental health issues. There's no way it can't. I'm very fortunate to have been adopted at 12. Lots of therapy and mental health care and I actually grew up ok. Im a preschool teacher now.❤

How could people ever think she was an adult with a baby face like she did baffled me . She had many, many photos with baby teeth growing … come on people . 20 years later she still look very young .

I’m still struggling to understand how medical professionals tasked with finding the age of this child did NOT do their due diligence. As soon as they mentioned full pubic hair, my first indicator went off. Then when Natalia played with a child that has the same type of dwarfism but was much taller and more “adult” appearing in facial features… how did not one doctor stop to think of precocious puberty?! She has all the visible indicators if you take away her stature; pubic hair, breast growth and abnormal height for her age. I am not a medical professional and this falls under an Endocrinology specialty but it is something my little sister was diagnosed with having at around 6-7 yrs old. As an adoptive mother myself and having experience with foster care, reactive attachment disorder is something every perspective/adoptive family should be trained to handle. While I have some concerns over the state of her mental health, how could she have had any other opportunity to know different and yet like so many others I am emotionally invested in knowing how this plays out. I do hope that the family who chose to love her and nurture her as best they could aren’t damaged in all of this. Michael and Christine should rot in jail for abuse and abandonment, how is it they can’t be re-tried knowing the suppressed key evidence? ❤

Michael and Kristine should be in jail along with the dumb judge who re-aged Natalia! They abused her! While she was living in the first apartment she was under very strong adult psych meds. I don’t know how she survived that. I understand how the neighbors thought she was annoying and creepy because they thought she was 22 years old. All along she was just an abused 8/9 year old girl.

THANK you! I have been following this case since irresponsible dr Phil exploited Natalia saying “maybe she’s in between child and adult “ 🤬🤬 She did not get her period she was forced to shove a tampon into her little body😭…those people are horrific!!

No matter what this poor girl should never have been left alone. She needed care and supervision and contact with with people. She has physical disabilities, obvious mental trauma from everything she went through. It was inhumane. It was abusive. No one should be treated like that. Behavioral problems are a sign of prior or current abuse, mental illness, ect. No one should have to go through that alone. She needed the right fit, one with no other children until intervention and therapy. Foster kids too. A kid turns 18 and suddenly left on the street. Shout out to foster parents that recognize that foster kids still need parents just like biological children.

I just finished watching your video and I thought you showed a great deal of insight and compassion. I agree about the way the documentary was produced. It was very manipulative. It reminds me of how so many comedies use laugh tracks to induce a calculated audience response. Of all the horrors that Natalia endured, I have to think that being all alone in those apartments at night for over a year may have been the worst. For that young, little girl, that would have been a long horror movie every night. I can't even imagine what she went through and the psychological damage she suffered as a result. It makes me ill just thinking about it. I own some pepper spray. Spaying a little girl in the face with pepper spray is about as sadistic as it gets. If I happened to cross paths with Kristine, she would learn what pepper spray feels like on her face and in her eyes (for educational purposes). I look forward to your future videos on Natalia Grace. I hope she can get some sort of compensation in civil court. I also hope the network that produced this series has compensated her very well. It is the very least they could do for her. Finally, I hope that whatever happened between her and her new parents (the Mans) is temporary and that they have a good relationship again. Thanks to TheTiltedLawyer for the great information!

I was sexually abused and started my period at the age of 8 years! You never know what has gone on in the child’s life or body!

Treating a genuine 22 year old without any disabilities the way natalia reports the barnetts treated her is still abusive, verbal and physical. I dont understand why the age change is being used to justify abusing this girl. Like it would be ok to pepper spray a 22yr able bodied person in her face for not doing calculus????

Ive been looking forward to your analysis of this case. Im so glad you are going to do a deep dive on it because it really does deserve a deep dive legal analysis.
This season had my blood boiling. Between the terrible production choices, the abuse she described and the lack of culpability from all the ways she was failed, her season just left me feeling disgusted. Natalia was re-aged with no representation. There wasnt a GAL or anyone that could bring forth all the medical records proving she was a child. They stated the Barnett's petitioned the court for the age change with literally only a letter from the friend family doctor and a social worker. That is appalling that it could go down that way. Also the little people family (depauls) that wanted to adopt her that fell though, There was a cps report on possible mistreatment of Natalia on the chiccones and they believed that the depauls made the report. The chiccones then refused to allow the depauls to adopt her. Its really sad. How different her life would've been to be adopted by a family that still so clearly cares for her. I look forward to your upcoming episodes on this. I know she has some options as far as civil litigation but i truly hope there is some way that there can be some accountability here. Its sickening to think the Barnetts have gotten away with all this.

I was very disturbed by Michael's attorney. They way he spoke of Natalia was so vile!

Michael Barnett is crazy and melodramatic. He does them both badly. He was only concerned with being cleared of any responsibility or civil suits!

Beth Karas and the other producers should be arrested for this documentary. Instead or wrapping this "story up." they are exploiting this family.

I don't feel sorry for ANY of the partcipants of the documentary. Michael is a horrible "actor", Natalia went through atrocious things-but like my grandmother used to say, "there's something not clean in that wash." I don't buy COMPLETELY her story either.

The Mans family are shady as wel

I watched all of the series…I started to feel bad for her obviously..then at the end, I was looking forward to her happy ending…but that last moment got me. Now I’m thinking, the common denominator is Natalia. However, she was a child so not to blame for any of her behavior. However, I think Kristine is a monster no matter what, Michael is insane, and the Mans family is a kid mill. They have all those kids for their money. They got Natalia out of the apartment only to rent it out!!! They took her food stamps and her check. I think they adopted her at her late age of 20 because legally they’re responsible for her until 21. They would have gotten all of the money she made off of the show too.

When I watch the Dr. Phil program about this debacle, I got the distinct feeling that that family was using her?!

How would one go about 'eating' their period? They've claimed she was eating the remnants of her period. That she eas eating her used maxi pads and tampons? Ik Barnett's where was she getting the feminine hygiene products? Ir are you suggesting she was eating wash cloths? Or excessive amounts of toilet paper? This is the stupidest thing I think I have ever heard. Ever.
