Streaking series would be good, but if you lose you should have some sort of punishment/handicap. I was thinking along the lines of if you lose a game you have to play with a 0 chem team until you win a game, or some other form of handicap.

for trek to the top why don't you just build a bronze for div 5, silver for div 4, non-rare gold for div 3, rare gold for div 2 and then like an all IF/allstar squad for div 1? Would make for an interesting series...
