Probably my fastest tut yet (going back into retirement for a while after this one) XD
for those who can't follow me talking at only 10% my full speed, here is a transcript:
2-dimensional photos aren’t as cool as 3-dimensional video so let me show you how to take your photo, do some camera alignment so we can model our scenery, and effectively project our photo with some depth. Step 1: you’re gonna outside with a mask, and find some area that you want to convert into 3D geometry. Step 2: you’re gonna download fspy, the addon lets you import fspy data into blender (this is all free by the way), and import your photo into fspy. Step 3: you’re gonna align these lines to your x and y axes making sure to hold down shift for accuracy where your alignment should be looking something like this. You can also use rectangular mode if you don’t have well defined lines in your shot. Anyways when you’re done make sure to save out all your progress and move on to step 4 where we’re gonna

Ok, step 4: what we’re gonna do is import our alignment into blender, and in the camera view start roughly modeling out all your geometry. Remember you don’t need to put in that much detail here because the projected texture will make everything look super detailed anyways. Step 5: you’re gonna take your model and apply a material with the source image plugged in directly, actually this is even better. Does it look fucked? Ya it does, but just throw on a uv project modifier with your map, camera, and aspect ratio, and to get rid of the distortion just throw on a subsurf for extra subdivisions. Step 6, pro tip: if your alignment wasn’t perfect you’re gonna see a bit of texture bleeding and you can fix this by adding in an extra shape key along with an extra uv map with a standard unwarp, use this key to fix our alignment from the camera view, and using the new uv map just bake in this texture which we can now apply as our material and go back to the basis shape key.
(And I know what you’re thinking; can’t you do this much faster with project from view? Ya, you can; but that feature is quite frankly broken and doesn’t work as cleanly as the method I showed you, so, I’m not using project from view until it is fixed -- anyways...)
Step 7: if your photo had an object in the foreground you’re probably seeing this duplicated projection which we don’t want in the final render. So to fix this we’re gonna need to clone-stamp out this object to generate a second clean plate image which we’re gonna turn into its own material, select the areas with the duplicated projections, and assign this as the new material.
