Great video Julie! Especially the commentary about The Hate U Give, I definitely need to move that up on my TBR and read it soon, you've got me very intrigued! I can't honestly think of a controversial book that I've read in the last few years...but like you said, there's many of them out there. Take care, girl!☺

After hearing you talk about your upcoming group read of "House of Leaves" I ordered a copy for myself off of Amazon. It just came today, and after flipping through it all I can say is wow, this book looks like it is going to be amazing!

Honestly, the most amazing books are banned. The best way for kids to learn about difficult topics is through books. Also, so much respect for the crew of THUG. They handled the situation perfectly, and it must have been so hard to have to completely redo the entire movie.

I really loved We Were Liars too! I read it before I started watching Booktube, and then I got here and realized everyone hated it and was like "welp, ok".

I freaking read we were liars in like one sitting and cried so much. Did not expect that ending at all. Love loved it.

Ohhh... I didn't know about the THUG movie... but you're completely right, that situation and Christopher Plummer replacing Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the World is setting new standards on casting and in Hollywood. And maybe from now on producers will take a stand and replace actors/directors/writers/etc with inappropriate behavior that should always be far from being rewarded
I really like hearing you talk about Outlander, that's definitely not a healthy relationship and it baffling how many
people think it is... And while it's set in the past, Claire is from a more recent time (even if our past) and sometimes she realizes Jamie's behaviour is wrong, but other times she accepts it, that's so confusing. Also when you said people love it or hate it, I was like I don't, I more in the middle, but the more I thought of it you're right - what I love I really love and what I hate I really hate about the series...
But really interesting and great tag!! :)

many old European versions of and then there were none by Agatha Christie were translated as ten little n-kids/boys with the poem also reading ten little n-boys. its thankfully changed to ten little soldiers in the poem and and then there were none in the title but the old Norwegian version is the most controversial book i own

YES!! I am SO HAPPY that you didn't like Outlander! Not that I'm trying to book-bash, but more that you're one of my favorite BookTubers and I wanted you on my side, lol. I also thought I would love the series. I do like alot of historical fiction, I can read problematic things that fit the period and it makes sense, it goes with the setting, it's seamless. Not so with Outlander. I think it's so jarring because while Jaime might think it's ok, the horrid MC went along with it! She's a modern(ish) woman, and she's like, oh ok, I guess I get a beating now. What? I hated pretty much everything about the book, but I made myself finish it. Mostly so I could argue about how horrid it was.

Your take on Outlander was spot on! Everyone I speak to loves it and girl you hit the nail on the head! I feel the same about it. I am showing this video to my friends to prove I am not the only person that feels Jamie is a chauvinistic pig.

I've been dying to read The Hate U Give! That's really disappointing about the actor, especially having to redo everything. Can you imagine the cost to literally every aspect of the production??

Thank you for tagging me, Julie! I will definitely have to give some thought to these questions, but it’s an interesting tag because people have such varying opinions on controversial topics.

I really understood where the relationship came from. I know the relationship was so wrong but in the beginning it seemed it was more him just worrying about her and her brother don't you think?

I'm so frustrated more movies DON'T pull actors. We set the bar so low for "artistic genius", and it's bullshit. Plenty of people out there with skill and talents that aren't crap humans.

Thanks for the tag! Sorry we didn't notice sooner. Definitely wanna do this one soon. - - Rebecca

Great video! Since you're a writer Id love to know what you look for while rating and reviewing. Im trying to be more critical of the writing but not sure what to look for.

YAASSSS the way the filmmakers handled that was SO GREAT! Like - it’s the right thing to do!!! They chose to suffer financially in order to not be hypocrites - and I think it will end up only gaining them more revenue, honestly. People want to support things like that with their dollars!

I agree that what they did in THUG was really well done and I’m more excited about seeing the movie than I was before.

I agree with u with the white washing of characters in films/movies. Was so pissed about tiger lily in pan.

I’m so glad that the live action Mulan has an Asian cast 🙌 the way it should be.

I'm gonna lowkey copy your answers for the last question cause JD and the guy who plays Chris were exactly who I was thinking about. Thank you so much for tagging me! 🤗

I'm finally reading THUG. Just picked it up from the library. I might just be the last person on booktube to read it! I kind of love reading polarizing books to see where I land. I'm one who didn't like We Were Liars.
