What Is a 2 Carat Diamond?
A diamond's weight is measured in carats. For proportions, five carats are equal to one gram which means that two carats weigh 0.4 grams. Now since diamonds are priced in weight classes, when speaking of 2 carat diamonds, usually we speak of diamonds weighing from 2.00 to 2.20 carats.
It’s important to note that a carat is a weight unit, not a size. For proportions, a round brilliant 2 carat diamond is about 8.2mm in diameter.
What Is a Two Carat Diamond Ring?
A 2 carat diamond ring is a ring where the center stone is a 2 carat diamond. However a 2 carat diamonds ring is a ring where the total carat weight is 2 carats and that’s a whole different story.
Imagine a halo diamond ring where the center diamond is a 1.50 carat and the small halo diamonds weigh another 50 points. That ring’s total diamonds weight is 2 carats but the cost of the diamonds is far less than a simple solitaire ring with one center diamond that weighs 2 carats.
The logic behind it is the scarcity of larger jewelry quality diamonds - they are simply harder to find in nature and therefore more expensive...
How to Choose a 2 Carat Diamond Ring?
Our recommendation is to start with a budget.
Generally speaking, the prices of diamond rings with a center diamond larger than half a carat are comprised mainly of the cost of the center diamond. And as the size of the diamond goes up, the more impact the diamond has on the price of the ring. With 2 carat diamonds, the diamond itself makes about 90% of the cost of the ring.

Quick Savings Tips
If you are willing to step outside the comfort zone of what everybody else is buying - there are plenty of options to save, even more than the 30%
For one, you can opt non-round diamonds. That’s an easy 10-20% save.
Next, you could settle on diamond quality. While we don’t recommend buying diamonds with visible inclusions, there are for example diamonds with fluorescence - the discount can be 5-15%.
Consider buying a 1.90 carat diamond instead of a 2 carat diamond. Size-wise they would almost be identical, but price-wise… you can expect a cost drop of 10-15%
Lastly, there are also natural fancy colored diamonds that come in pink, brown, yellow, and more. Most colored diamonds are more expensive than colorless ones, but brown, black, and even yellow diamonds are cheaper than colorless diamonds. For the time of the video, a beautiful 2 carat yellow diamond would cost about $8,000
