Best advice on YouTube. I saved a lot of money last with a HDG plan even though I had quite a bit of medical treatment. It is unusual and refreshing to have an insurance salesman give advice that really helps their client

I like my G-HD for the incentive to stay healthy to avoid medical costs and for lower monthly expenses.
Before I retired I had low healthcare costs and I was not healthy due to free junk food at work every week.
I am now healthy with two meals a day and only nutrient-rich foods and nonsynthetic supplements.
The medical industry can't make money from healthy people.

One of the key things you mentioned that most agents on you tube do not is The Medicare Approved Rate. Often folks worry about the billed amount when Medicare discounts the bill a tremendous amount leaving the 20% your cost or your medigap's cost a tiny amount. Most, not all, insurance agents don't mention the MAR.
With HD plans you save money when you are healthy and when you have a poor health year, you use your savings. Put it in a Christmas fund (make that Health fund). In fact United American has a Reserve Annuity you can put money in and THEY will pay your providers up to the HD out of that fund. You can top it off each year with the current HD amount; plus it earns interest. Best thing I ever did for my husband 78 and myself 73.
I started on F went to G after one year because the difference in premiums was more than the Part B deductible. Then went to HD and never looked back. I hated paying over $200/mo in premiums and saw how little they paid by the end of the year. Protecting what? Makes sense for us.

Finally, someone explained this plan so I can understand it. Thank you so much and it is a no brainer High Deductible G for me

I have been on a high deductible Plan F for three years and I am totally ahead the cost of the regular Plan F. One can think of it as a roll of the dice with an downside risk of maybe $800 higher than one would spend on the no-deductible version, but the upside for me has been a saving of about $1300 a year over the last three years. I am a big fan of the high deductible plan.

Thank you for your great presentation of HDG. I found some agents don’t even know about the plan and those that do don’t bring it up. I appreciate you pointing out that you still have coverage up to 80% and will only be paying the 20% coinsurance until you reach your deductible amount at which time you then have 100% coverage. I see this as a great option for those of us that don’t have major health problems and only go to the doctor occasionally. Definitely lots of money saved on this plan.

Great info ... I just learned about GHD and it seems to be PERFECT for those who live in Florida who might be in less-than-perfect health and approaching Medicare Initial Enrollment. Florida (due to Issue Age arrangement) has much higher Supplement premiums vs. most other states (excluding a few like NY). This is MUST SEE TV :)

I'm in Dallas-Fort Worth and a 66yo non-smoker. My Plan N through Manhattan Life is $97.50 per month.

Thanks a lot doc. Now I need to see how that translates to Tx.

I would think another advantage of HG might be price stability, particularly with a community rated plan. People with issues are going to pile into G.

I got part N and I'm happy with it. I just used it for first time and it went great. I rented one of those stand-up scooters, well I ran into a curb at 15 mph, went flying over the handlebars. Broke 2 ribs and its very painful. Spent a nite in the hospital, the nurses and doctors were very kind, its amazing how good they treat you when your 100% covered.

Totally agree. I have spent too much time analyzing this. If you are in good health at initial enrollment then you are most likely to save money on HDG. If you are not in good health then the Plan N break-even is 9 maybe 10 years out.

I have this plan currently, but am concerned that you said this would not be the right one for those, like me, with pre-existing conditions. I have several doctors but only see them twice a year. Plus i take a lot of medications. Is there another recommended plan to accommodate those who have to have specialist doctors who prescribe expensive non generic medications?

Thank you for the great information! It does seem like a good way to save money overall the only negative I could see is if you're admitted to the hospital on New Year's Eve stay over for four or 5 days until the new year, then you would have to complete your deductible for one year and then pay the full to ductable for the following year right away. But you can always get on a payment plan as well and pay overtime to the hospital. You can also buy Indemnity plans that help you cover medical expenses that are probably not as expensive as a higher-cost Medigap plan

I have had the high deductible F plan for the past four years for me & my wife. I was a property / casualty commercial insurance underwriter . The high deductible plan has worked out very well for us..
