Go to Tuscany. Siena, Arezzo, Pisa, Lucca, Firenze, Grosseto, Massa and the whole Lunigiana. Viareggio, Isola d'Elba, San Gimignano... sea, mountains, everything is beautiful, reasonably cheap, slow and happy. Good and healthy food too.

As an italian from the centre (so unbiased about either North or south ) my suggestion Is : something in the North (Better everything) but NOT in a too cold area. I suggest something like Bologna. Pretty big but not huge , reasonable prices, nice weather, fantastic food, chill people. Its like a Florence that hasn t yet be discovered by tourist.
