As a Croat I kind of agree that we are the most dysfunctional "family" of Europe. He did simplify it but we are quite complicated to explain though. There was so much going on in the past 2000 years ....from the Roman Empire till today.
All I can say a lot of my fellow Croats dont like to be called Balkan but I honestly don't care ...because our mentality is quite Balkan and idc either if some of my fellow Croats get offended by that. Obviously not whole Croatia is counted into Balkan...but that doesnt make a big difference.

And despite all that, if you ever get a chance, come to Croatia, you will love it here :)

Fun fact. When it comes to South Slavic languages (especially serbo-Croatian) There are Greater Dialectic differences inside one language then there are between 2 official languages. Like I know 3-4 words for socks all coming from the region I live in and all of them are completely different from the official Croatian word for socks XD

If you are interested, there is a history of Afro Albanian community that lived in my hometown(Ulcinj, Montenegro). One of the most famous citizens in general from there was Rizo Šurla. He was Yugoslav Partisan during WW2 and fought with my Grandfather together.
