Inside a Modern Day Ghost Town (Shusha, Azerbaijan)

In this video, I'm taking you inside the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. In 2020, Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a war over this region, with each country claiming it as their own. Azerbaijan ultimately won the war, but the region was devastated after 2 months of war and years of neglect. Today we're visiting Shusha, a city considered the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. The city is still closed to most visitors, but today we'll go inside the city, and take a look at the affects of the war and 30 year occupation, as well as the rebuilding efforts currently underway.

I'm a Bangladeshi and I started watching your videos after your visit to our country. What I liked most about your contents is that you always show "raw" and uncensored, from an open perspective, free from political or social agendas POV. Most YouTubers tries to hide the truth and shows what goes best along with "agendas" and then there is you who won’t shy away from reflecting on things for what they truly are. Amazing.. big fan. 👏🇧🇩

Last week we visited Karabakh. Thanks God there are not any russian soldiers. Karabakh is flourishing day by day. You can see workers, construction machines at any possible place, even at the high mountains.
To get Shusha and Khankendi we drove through the ghost cities you mentioned in this video - Agdam, main part of Khojali, Askeran and we just became sure that one can't appreciate the thing that doesn't belong with him. The demolished way through the ruins of Agdam (it's indeed ruins. And I can't imagine how they could destroy such a big and flourishing city with a lot of historical places.) made us sad. I can describe Karabakh like this.
Karabakh is a beautiful, but sad maid dressed in ugly and torn clothes, with her long mess hair who struggles to smile. But it's Ok. We'll embrace Her. Cause we are her family, not the school of owls who like living in ruins.

Thank you for truthful story about Armenian invasion 30 years ago, about the view of destroyed historical Azerbaijani city. It is not the only one. About one million refugees had left there homes during the Armenian invasion with the help of russion military detachments. We hope justice about those events will reach all the world .

Only the true homeowners desire to restore and build at the lands which belong them unlike invaders who destroy everywhere because they know that one day there are not gonna be there. Even from this point, you can see the real owners of Karabakh.

Interesting perspective. I’m Armenian & familiar with the conflict.. needless to say this is a tragic situation for two cultures with much pain & suffering from both sides.

Regardless of your perspective, to not believe in the right of self determination by the ethnic Armenians in the region known as Nagorno Kharabagh, or Artsakh who have lived in these lands for centuries, is to turn your back on basic human rights, norms, and freedoms.

Either the Armenians will be ethnically cleansed from the region, or they will have the right to self determination. The hate Azerbejian has for Armenians disqualifies them to ever administer the area under their control.

Wishing the regular ppl in the region better times.
