That extra space is afforded by the 3.6 v6 stashed in that specific truck. There is considerably less space in that bay when a 5.7 hemi is present

My old '68 Impala was more engine compartment than engine, even with the 350 V8 in it. You could 3 or 4 Ryans under the hood.

They ban pop up headlights in case you run someone over they can roll over the hood, yet trucks exist.

If you put the Cummins Desiel in that thing you wouldn't be able to fit in there. but most people don't get that option.

Also I understand that the bigger the vehicle is the less strict the emissions testing for it is. So it's also a way to lax the Emissions tests.
