Hi everyone! Today's video is about my May 2023 Wrap Up. I finished five novels and one manga volume this month. Quantity-wise, I read lesser compared to April, but if we're talking about the quality of books I read in May, it's certainly superior. Let me know what you think about these books, and do tell me how many books you finished last month. Which one was your favorite book of the month? :)

Booktuber mentioned: @TallGuyReads

I've done a full review of these books:

0:00 Intro
11:04 Ruination by Anthony Reynolds
17:02 Manga & Book of the Month
17:53 Closing

--It brings such a big smile to my face to see people discovering and enjoying Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. Truly a fantastic series. That is definitely a beautiful edition of The Dragonbone Chair. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
Thanks for sharing, and happy reading!

May was my best reading month in awhile, in both quantity and quality. Obviously quality is what actually matters.

*Fantasy*
Kithimar 1: Age of Ash / Daniel Abraham
- I want to read this again after the next book comes out because Abraham is so good at layering and foreshadowing. But as is I really enjoyed it. Sammish stole the book for me but I also liked Alys' arc. Abraham's character work is so underrated.

*Grimdark Fantasy*
Black Company / Glen Cook (re-read)
Black Company 2: Shadows Linger
Black Company 3: White Rose
- I'm glad I gave this series another chance. I appreciated Book 1 more on re-read, retried Shadows Linger and it was excellent and so was White Rose.

*Steampunk Fantasy*
Shadows of the Apt 1: Empire in Black & Gold
- It's been a bit since I last read Tchaikovsky and I'm glad I'm finally reading his Fantasy epic. BUGS!

*Thriller*
No Country for Old Men / Cormac McCarthy
- Anton Chigurh, what a villain.

The Wasp Factory / Iain Banks
- Banks is my personal favourite Sci-Fi author so thought I'd finally give his non Sci-Fi work a go. Pretty messed up. Still dunno how I feel about the climax and resolution though.

Congratulations on a happier reading month, Petrik! I read The Dragonbone Chair and the rest of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn more than twenty years ago, and it remains my favorite four-book trilogy to this day. 😁Joking aside, it is in fact a brilliant series by an incredibly talented author. I wish you another great month of reading for June!

My favorite from last month has to be Hero of Ages. Catching up on the Cosmere after hearing so many Booktubers rave about it.

I'm also on season two of Succession! It took me a few episodes to get into it but I'm hooked now!

So glad to hear your channel is thriving! Hopefully those likes and subscribes keep climbing.
You've already convinced me to add The Dragonbone Chair to my TBR for later in the year.
I had similar feelings about Ruination this month as you. I enjoyed it overall, though there were a couple plot devices I didn't click with so much.

My May Reads: 7 novels
- Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson (*Best book read this month*)
- Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett (completed Founders trilogy)
- A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab (I hate it almost as much as you did)
- Malice by John Gwynne (rough start to Faithful and Fallen, but I loved Bloodsworn Saga, so I'm still gonna keep reading and hope this series improves. Too slow and too many story beats similar to GOT/ASOIAF)
- Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
- Ruination by Anthony Reynolds
- Wizard and Glass by Stephen King (Book 4 of Gunslinger series)

I just finished Iron Gold (for the first time) yesterday and really enjoyed it! Hoping I enjoy Dark Age just as much 🤞🏻. I want to read The Dragonbone Chair once I have a bit more room in my reading schedule (ie have finished a few of my ongoing series!).

Perfect example of quality over quantity! I am so happy to see you enjoying your reads ;)
Totally agree that Ruination was a pleasant surprise, I had so much fun with that one! And I am super happy for you that The Dragonbone Chair was such a bit hit. Did you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding when you realised you hadn't made a mistake in buying the expensive special edition? 🤣
Great wrap-up Petrik!

Great video. I'm really intrigued with Ruination and The Dragonbone Chair, I'll have to check them out eventually. I read 7 books for the month of May and it's a tie for my favorite book. One fantasy and one sci-fi, Aiduel's Sin by Daniel T Jackson and In The Lives Of Puppets by TJ Klune.

I just finished the will of the many a couple days ago. It was fantastic. You weren't exaggerating it was seriously the best book I've read in a long time and after the last like 20 pages of the book I can. Not. Wait. For the next one. I just started the dragonbone chair last night and I'm excited to see where it goes. Your recommendations are always spot on.

I finished The Winter King and Enemy of God by Bernard Cornwell last month, and they were excellent. Prior to that, I finished up the books you are reading by Tad Williams, and I'd have to agree that he does take his time moving his characters along; but, his fantastic prose hides it. You feel very immersed in that world indeed.

Last month, I finished 5 books and my favorite was The Bitter Twins, closely followed by Traitor's Blade. I'm planning to read Mother of Learning later this year and looking forward to it!

I need to read Iron Gold and Dark Age this year before the next book. It’s such a good sci-fi series. And I knew you would love The Dragonbone Chair! I loved getting to know Simon and his world like Rachel the Dragon! lol

Great video.
Royce and Hadrian were wonderful characters, they had so much emotion so much laughter, Sullivan can't reproduce them, only write some new adventures. The Dragonbone Chair is a classic from the 1980's, enjoyed my reread. Ruination sounds interesting. Read the first Red Rising trilogy, but never went further, figuring that was it for the story.
