Tips to Beat Detectives Only Challenge

This week the weekly challenge is Detectives Only on Edgefield which is No Evidence with all tier 1 items and Ouija Board is always the cursed object.

The way I recommend playing this is ask the Ouija Board where the ghost is, check for wraith by placing salt down, mimic by looking for orbs, and test for an onryo and shade with firelights/motion sensors to see if the blowout happens with you in the same room as the ghost and if it hunts after 3 blowouts. Then you can get the ghost to hunt and start ruling out things from there! Here are my attempts from PC.

Me and my team of 3 just went in there and "hide and seek"d the ouija board after setting up as many checks as possible

Another tip I used was asking the age of the ghost on the board to test for a thaye, of course it might be better to test a thaye during hunts but as a somewhat new player I found that strategy easier.

I just lined the doorway to the living room with salt, place motion sensors in the hallway, stairs and doorways by the living room to track movement and check for raiju. Then just drain as much sanity with the oujia hoard by asking its age for thaye test, then I let it hunt and loop with the couch. Max 8 mins in the house, then leave, get it wrong or right and then speedrun again.

I just got the game and bought it for my friend's as well. We are all very low leveled and I only wanted to unlock some of the basic equipment with the 5000 xp. I threw on an audio book and just brute forced entering and immediately exiting games until it was spirit 3 times. It didn't take long (about 40 seconds each attempt) and now I have a bit of a head start for actually playing with.

I got a myling in one of the 3 wins and I did the flashlight trick and it worked and I identified it, your guides always helped!

My group kept getting banshee, mare, shade (and I didn't think to use motion sensors so it kept tricking us with the candles), and poltergeists who would throw one item at the beginning of the game and wouldn't throw anything afterwards and completely ignore our polty piles. We had a one minute round with a mimic, but other than that, we just kept getting ghosts that were really difficult for us to test as people who know ghost behavior really well, but don't have much experience putting it to practice. The challenge took us like 3 hours 😂

My first ghost I noticed that it was very violent and then after really out some ghosts I did a hunt and noticed that it was pretty fast. It was a thaye. After ruling up most ghosts, I went to a room near the ghost and heard the gifts throw something. I went back to the truck and saw a spike of seven. It was poltergeist. My third game it was just generally being weird. It was touching something near me and then touching something all the way at the other side of the house. It was pretty obvious that it was The twins

I got 3 Oni’s in a row, but only guessed the first one right because I didn’t think it’d repeat the same one 3x

I guessed the right ghost all three times. It was wild! I also did it on my PC, but it took a few more tries, but it get me up to lvl 14!

I just used the board for the room, set up checks and then made the board explode for a forced hunt

My first ghost was a wraith, easy find with salt and a sensor at the door. Second was a polty, I noticed a shoe got thrown pretty hard. Last one was harder it was an Obake, after 5 hunts I saw it blink

I just treated it like a no sanity run, found the room used the ouija board to get my sanity to 0% and figured it out through hunts. If I knew it was either an onryo, shade, mare or yurei I would just guess and go and hope I get an easier ghost the next game, only took me 4 games to complete the challenge 👍🏻

Did the 3 with friends today. First was in and out. Orbs immediately spotted in living room.
Second was a demon. It hunted at 70 sanity and burning our crosses.
Third was a deogen. 2/3 died to it as we were hiding and realised too late. I was in a bathroom with teammate when it came in and was slowly walking, I shouted to use insense since I'd burnt mine already on the way, but for some reason they hadn't brought it with them( they still pretty new). I just stated it's a deogen to them before I kicked it haha.
Nice it still counts as successful when you die.
There were a few failed attempts in there.
