Particularly interesting in the context of taking place one week before Nixon’s resignation.

I'm a liberal Democrat, but I always kind of liked this guy for some strange reason. Imagine agreeing to an interview with Mike Wallace at that period in history!

General Haig is only 49 years old here. He was promoted to 4 star general directly from 2 star general. He was a serious man who thought of President Nixon as his commanding officer. This had to be an extremely difficult period for him in terms of balancing his loyalties between the Constitution and the President. Although I think his defense of Nixon was misplaced I do think Gen Haig was an honorable person.

A fascinating interview. If you read "The Final Days" by Woodward and Bernstein you marvel at all that Haig had to handle.

Why would Haig do this interview, knowing Nixon was finished and that Wallace would hammer him?

The question Wallace should have asked this man is " Mr Haig how many coffins does it take to transport one dead man from Andrews AFB to the Bethesda Medical Center (with a stopover at Walter Reed"?

Cool-headed here but lost all composure during the attempt on Reagan's life in '81! As secretary of state he misstated that position was third in line & told the nation "I'm in charge here @the White House!" A Soviet plot was the main rationale for the shooting.

Haig spun this best he could, but if you listen carefully, if you're keenly aware.... it's obvious he knew that Nixon would be exiting in less than 2 weeks.
