Java Game Development (LibGDX) | How to continue? - Platformer vs Top-Down

Thanks for 128 subs! Looks like my videos are rather helpful after all :)

I wrote some tests and NateS from BadLogicGames/LibGDX fixed them instantly. Thank you!

Now we can continue with the really interesting part: The actual game!
I know that I said we're going to make a top-down game in the beginning, but SuperGxForce suggested a platformer, which I think is not a bad idea.
It's your decision now.

After your previous help, I feel like the top-down thing is pretty easy to understand (although the collisions using Scene2D between odd-shaped sprites are a PITA), so a platformer would be cool, especially if we can see some Box2D stuff. I feel like learning how to setup and automate the physics would be a huge help.

of course! whatever you want to do, everything is useful for our knowledge.

Got it. Also, it appeared at 2:13 for me. Are the results public? Or will you be making an announcement later on? One more thing, great tutorials! You always crack me up with the things you say. Like, in one of the videos you apparently received some weird text and you were like, "What the f*ck?!". I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Keep up the great work, man!

i honestly suggest a platformer gamer, why ?

-it has more to work on, such, gravity, fluid movement and jumping, perfect collision which will give you more material to work on and gives us more information to know ^_^

-adding shooting to a platformer game will make it a lot more rich than a top-down game (assuming that in a top-down it's gonna be kinda survivor shooting game or something similar )

sooo, platformer please

thank you

dermetfan hi and congratulations for your amazing work, could you please make a tutorial on Particle effect editor as there is a lack of documentation on it, or in general how to add effects on the game. Thank you mate and keep up your amazing work. It is really encouraging and extremely important to see people like you to share their knowledge.

You replied faster than I could write the description and add the poll to the video! Maybe go to 2:10 and vote, too, so I can have the numbers of votes in the end? Thanks ^^
"gravity, fluid movement and jumping, perfect collision": Box2D covers all of these, so there would be no big difference to a top-down game in these points. I'm just saying, this is no defense for the top-down game at all.

Sorry, looks like it was broken. The annotation poll feature is still in beta. At 2:10, you should now be able to click the answers.

You should be able to click the annotations at 2:10. I don't know if it really works though, it's still in beta.

Maybe too late to vote but I wouldn't mind a libgdx game with an inventory sounds challenging?

I'd announce them, but it looks like it doesn't really work or something (it counts no votes), so I guess I'll let the comments decide. Until now, everybody seems to have the same opinion anyway.
Ah yes, I remember that text. Thanks a lot, I'm doing my best! :)

Maybe we could let the game detect what it's running on and activate appropriate controls for the current platform like an analog stick for Android. I don't promise it, though.

oops :3

well if it is just a matter of "taste", i vote for a platformer game

Thank you! We're probably going to use particle effects in the game anyway, but for now, I got this: /watch?v=LCLa-rgR_MA
