The heart sounds in this video only go from 0:05-0:53. For a new born you must count all heart sounds for one full minute. Therefore, the heart rate in this video due to the shortened video is actually 103-105bpm, which is considered low. However, per this video’s recommendation of counting for 6 seconds and multiplying by 10 this method is only used when you need an immediate heart rate such as immediately after birth for APGAR and for neonatal resuscitation program (NRP). Otherwise, in postpartum and after, you should be counting when possible for one full minute entirely, not shortcutting and multiplying. Reminder, a newborn heart rate should be greater than 100 to 160bpm.

Damn, when I work out, my highest my heart rate can go is about 160 before I feel like I’m gonna collapse. I’m surprised my heart rate can go as fast as a babies!
