"A lot of players" is a massive stretch.

As someone who played in tournaments at that time, nobody thought that. Not one person that I encountered thought that. Giant Germ was everywhere when it came out because it offered burn and field set up back when card effects didn't instantly clear fields besides like Dark Hole or Raigeki.

You'd be more easily able to find people that unironically thought "Spell" Cards were different than "Magic" cards during their transition.

Also the errata is errored too because it's "Giant Germs" with the s inside the quotation and there is no YuGiOh card called Giant Germs. It's the Eye of Timaeus all over again

My first thought was that you could summon other giant germs, but as a child that misunderstood what "tapping" was, I could see thinking it meant all monsters.

Today I learned this wasn't obviously an early attempt at referring to itself as people thought it could find whatever lol. Guess why they got so specific later that they use quotes lol

I don’t see the confusion, I understood what it meant from the start. That’s just people trying to cheat the system. Also there’s one final rule in all of yugioh that states if cards are misprinted or confusing you must play them as intended.

See back in the day, us veteran players knew what these cards meant. It wasnt until the GX era when people started getting confused. 😂

Even as a kid these were moment when I would look at my brother as I was putting down my two Hyozanryu (my favorite card back then) and amsaid, "Yeah there is no way a stupid germ is supposed to summon like this. Something is up."
