When i watched it years ago I didn't know it was one of those movie and that spider at the end scared the shenanigans out of me.

The line “historical events happen twice, the first a tragedy, the second a farce” always stuck with me. Seems to describe the two aspects of the character.

He's the exact same person. Since this isn't an alternate or sci-fi universe, it is clear that a person cannot be that identical with another, and this is more clearly implied when it is shown they even have the same scars on their body. Moreover, we never see the two characters together in a public place; they opt to meet up in a private places (hotel room, apartment). When his wife says 'are you seeing her again?', she must be referring to the blond girl he has been having sex with. It does get somewhat confusing towards the end as the 'girlfriend' appears shocked to discover 'Anthony', while the 'wife' is actually thankful to discover 'Adam'. The last parts should be taken rather symbolically; obviously, if Adam and Anthony are the same person, then he cannot be in two places at the same time, nor can he have died in the car crash. The car crash probably symbolizes the breaking up with the girlfriend either because he decided to focus on his forthcoming family, or because the girlfriend discovered he was married (hence the ring reference). For a little while, everything seemed to be getting better but then Anthony's/Adam's curiosity brings him back to his old bad habits (he's going to the erotic show, be that real or symbolic).

I think there is something far more sinister implied in the plot, two alters of a mind controlled person. His lecture on fascism and how society is controlled is a clue that can be overlooked.

I was thinking the actor is his older self since the same photo in the actor's place with his wife is torn in half in the professor's place he takes it out of a box to compare with the movies. and the scar is from the car crash and he survived but the woman died. however the woman in the car crash is his girlfriend and the wife is out of the picture somehow, so the wife should have been killed in the crash. so my theory kind of falls apart there. :p but I think I got some things right though. Maybe I need to read the novel. oh, also I almost forgot, in the scene with his mother, she says you have a nice job and forget about being an actor or sth. so there must be a timeline here. one must be from the past and the other in the future. it's confusing. maybe it is supoosed to be confusing, like they did it on purpose.

Did you watch the movie? The wife preferred Adam, you said she was bored, she clearly is used to his split personality paradox. This movie has to do with a man leaving his side piece for his wife but ultimately gets stuck in the same loop being the duche bag cheater

i think shes secretly a spider women and she came to get revenge on the actor, but at the end when the good guy decided to go watch spiders get crushed she had enough
