He literally built a shrine for his dead wife. In the game, they used to play Together. That's one of the most romantic gestures I've ever heard of from a widower.

The bike guy was the most wholesome. Players used what they had to decorate the world of the game she played in cherry blossom in respect

Could you imagine how hard it must’ve been to open Minecraft and hear that music, knowing, it’s just you now. Mad respect for him

In the 2000’s a Norwegian kid with a disease has disabilities, and he couldn’t go to school or anything, his parents thought he didn’t have any friends or relatives, but at his funeral, many people from across the world that he met online at WOW showed up for his funeral, to show respect. Even the news channels in Norway picked it up, and a movie about him was made.

There was a boy with a terminal illness who, as part of Make A Wish, got to visit Riot's headquarters. His favorite champion in League of Legends was Jax, so a line was added to the Jaximus skin in which he would say "Here's to you, kid!", in commemoration of the boy

Recently, Jax was given a visual overhaul, including new voice lines. They kept the tribute to the kid with the new line: "Bravest hero I ever knew was just a kid. Here's to you, champ!"

I remember someone did a similar thing in Minecraft, his girlfriend died and he built the castle of her dreams. Every single post was taken off Reddit for "karma farming", pretty heartbreaking

When Lance Reddick, famous actor, a fellow Guardian and talented VA as the voice of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2, passed away in March of 2023, hundreds of players visited his character in game and saluted the man that had been our commander for nearly a decade. If you remember playing the season at the time, there had been another character in game that had passed away, and Zavala gave a beautiful eulogy at their funeral just weeks after the announcement of Lance's passing.

Iit is amazing how he was able to build a shrine for his dead wife and he did it all in survival mode. Now that is dedication.

He's sad, but at least he managed to make Pauline proud of him one last time

Valve did something for the voice actor of soldier, Rick May. On every map there was a statue of a soldier saluting to commemorate Rick may, and soldiers would always be around these paying tribute to Rick may

WoW's Bridenbrad questline was so good though.

The TLDR is that a crusader had fought off the scourge (zombies) and was bitten and was going to be turned into one. The player character finds him and reports back to his commander, who then sends you around the world to visit several factions to try to help him. You go talk to the Druids who takes you into their mystical realm to collect herbs to use on him. He feels better, but it didn't work.

Then you go to the red dragons who have powers over life magic. You gather some of their energy and take it to him. He feels better, but the plague is still killing him.

Finally you go talk to the being of pure light. ("The light" in the game is an allegory of Christianity.) These beings them come to him and take his soul, saying that the light doesn't abandon it's champions. He then ascends to "heaven". We collect his belongings and give him a proper burial.

This quest was put into the game after the brother of one of the developers; Bradford Bridenbecker; died of cancer. The plague/zombie bite was representative of the cancer he had, and the various treatments that failed were the cancer treatments. The Light was ultimately the developers faith in his religion, who saw his brother going to heaven.

It's actually a really nice storyline. Especially in such a dark zone that you're questing through. Religious or not, it's a good quest chain and a nice memorial.

if I remember correctly, Team Cherry (the dev team of Hollow Knight and Silksong when it releases) is including a tribute to a kid who through make a wish got to meet them. the kid gave them a drawing of a character they made based on the game, and Team Cherry is going to include their character as a boss in Silksong, which was revealed in a trailer for the game.

Back in 2020, a Final Fantasy 14 player died due to covid, and since the lockdown was still in effect they held a funeral service in the game with hundreds attending. Similarly, when the mangaka of Berserk passed away hundreds of players stood vigil in one of the starting cities with the Dark Knight class which is based off of the protagonist Guts.

Not to mention Technoblade, just logged into Minecraft and saw the quote as "Technoblade never dies!" Rest in peace, legend.

I love when communities come together like this. This brought a tear to my eye and I hardly ever have that happen to me.

There is a Game called "Sky: Children of the Light" that I play. In Thatgamecompany (TGC; developers of Sky) one of the workers died and the devs decided to made a special place as a tribute.

It's a place out of the "main map" where is no music, just a comforting sound of wind and water. The place has grass and flowers, a place where is water where you can put messages to him or a person you love that passed away.

All players that go there keep silent and respect the place, some even sit next to you or give you a stuffed toy to hug for you. I used to go there to leave messages for my grandpa or when I felt overwhelmed.

It's pretty.

That first one hit me hard, just thinking about how the husband built a one to one statue of his wife's character made me cry. I respect the husband. I couldn't imagine how many emotions he went through.

Don’t forget that Nintendo also celebrated robin Williams who was a massive Zelda fan even naming his daughter after the princess of hyrule, so in his honor the devs designed an npc after him for Zelda breath of the wild. In the sequel the character is still in there and even got a job.
