I always get the direction wrong when I dot vectors, so I dotted DC to AB instead of CD, and I got Mu is equal to 1 instead of -1, how do I know which direction to use when I dot vectors to find angles in general, I always get confused

Hi on part d. I can work through the question but I don't get why we need to keep the height the same but times the length three times (i.e. AD)?
