Philosopher W.V. Quine explains the concept of ontology, which is something he wrote about extensively. He states that in general terms it is the science of being, the science of existence. Professor Quine observes that when tracking "things" (objects), there can be little disagreement. But when we get into abstract objects, he notes, there is less consensus. In fact, Professor Quine says, there's a school of philosophy, the nominalists, who claim that there are no abstract objects.
